When Your Boss is Sub-human
… how long can this possibly go on? How many of us can they replace with robots and self-checkouts? How much higher can they inflate prices while paying us the same, or less? They want us to spend our money there, but they also don't want to pay us to work. So we have less money to spend… on them. It's circular. Who do they eventually expect to sell to if nobody has any money to spend? So many of the same people buying and eating the burgers are the ones flipping them. My traditionally cheaper “value” grocery store intended for the more impoverished is presently pricing a jar of Cheez Whiz $10.49 CDN. But what kind of average asshole is spending that on a fucking cheese spread when they barely earn that in an hour stocking it to the shelf? Our ability to earn money seems so fundamental to…
I work in Product Management and have been looking around for a new job recently. Oddly enough, it seems 50%+ of companies for Product positions want an extensive case study/take home assignment done at some point in the process (done for free of course.) After completing this step for multiple companies only to be ghosted and not given feedback on my project, I started ghosting employers who ask of this step. I ask about it early on and agree to it, only to completely ghost and not show up to the panel interview/HM interview (I'm never doing another lengthy take home project for free.) Feels great to waste these people's time like they have no problem doing to me. Fuck the hoops some of these places try to make you jump through these days, I won't participate in it. A lot of these places have the audacity to message me…
As the title says, I got promoted and now handle a team of 5. I have implemented the following: Remote work is 100% acceptable. Stubbed your toe this morning and hurts too much to come in? Stay home, medical liability. I have a zero stress policy. I'm salaried, my reports are hourly. I allow them to work as much overtime as they want, with the caveat that they don't have to work those hours. Anyone working more than 40 hours a week as a necessity is a head count or efficiency issue and not their concern. Take time off guilt free. If you're afraid to miss a day because of work not getting done, that is a failure of the company and a concern for management, not you. I'm not sure why I'm posting this here but I guess I just wanted to throw a little positivity out there if…
Title basically explains it but I think I just hate work. I hate a schedule. I hate being relied upon by others. I hate the monotony. It’s honestly ruining my life. I truly believe I am not built to exist in this type of world. I know people say to “work so you can afford to do the things you like”, but I can truly say that I am unable to overlook the fact that I hate working. The worst part is I don’t even have a bad job. I get paid well enough, good benefits, pto, wellness programs, and decent enough coworkers. Even then, the monotony of this lifestyle fucking drains every ounce of life out of me. If I hate it when I have it this good, am I just fucked? I always feel guilty for complaining when I have it better than most, but I’m just so…
I swear no one in HR ever really looks at your skills or experience anymore, it's all about the “quirky questions” and if you are “a good fit” with their “culture” to see how much Kool-Aid you'll drink. Plus it seems companies automatically just dismiss job applicants until they've applied 5 or 6 times, just to see how bad they really want to work there. Sure, I could easily just go to the local grocery store and get a low-paying job but that won't even cover my rent. But getting a job with a decent wage has become almost impossible, even if you are totally qualified for the role.
Not sure how big an issue this outside the UK, but in my search for a job I'm finding more and more companies that use recruitment agencies or third party companies which “hide” who you will actually be working for. I've been searching for a job in the transport/courier industry and I am sick to death of getting offers or applying to jobs only to find that they're actually a third party company working with Amazon. If you deliver parcels for Amazon, just say that! Stop with this bullshit of “large online retailer” or “multinational distribution company” You're a third party delivering Amazon parcels for amazon, in fact since you don't even do any other companies you're a second party. It's just dishonest, wastes people's time and show's how bad the unchecked growth and monopolisation of Amazon has become.
