I get 5 sick days a year, is that really enough to manage physical and mental health?

No matter the job, I always end up both physically and mentally sick after a year. This cycle is so exhausting.

unionizing!!!

I work for a small high end grocery store chain the in the PNW that prides itself on being the first B-Corp grocery store in the nation, having competitive pay, and being an overall great place to work. About 6 months ago there was talk about one of the bigger store locations creating a labor union and moving forward with a vote and winning! Since then nearly half the stores have moved forward to join said labor union movement, change is happening fast. Just this week, my store’s location gained over 57% majority support to move towards unionizing and we filled! I’m so proud of all the organizers involved and all the support we have had. I’m coming here to ask for your stories if you have been through this same process, what was it like and what should we expect as we close in on voting times, and how…

Coincidence or no?

So obviously we didn't develop this system by accident. A large part of what has been established in terms of standard wages, employment practices, and labor laws was directly bought and paid for during the 1800s and 1900s by wealthy tycoons who absolutely WORSHIP capitalism. Which brings me to this. Did you know that one of the standard ages at which you can decide to retire is at 66 YEARS AND 6 months old? This is such utterly abitrary number that it almost screams demonic symbolism. After sacrificing 66 years and 6 months of your life to slave masters you are able to retire with higher monthly sums of money than 62 or 65. We know that having to sacrifice the majority of your life just to survive while making others filthy rich is inherently evil. Mega-capitalists know this too, they just don't give a fuck because they're on the…

Also from HBR: you don’t have drinking water, but here’s why you should wash your ass with champagne.

This showed up in my LinkedIn feed. It talks a lot about “synergy” and getting new ideas from different sources. Article is from 2017 btw: https://hbr.org/2017/04/why-you-should-have-at-least-two-careers?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=hbr&utm_source=LinkedIn

Work and Life

I am a 25 year old guy from India and here are my realizations in life. We live on this world for the 2 reasons. 1.Survival – to stay alive 2.Enjoy/entertainment – passing time Rest all of the things including work is based on just these factors. So don't forget the basics and keep adding life to your time and work for people who value you and work for something which you really love to work. Don't complicate your life. Cheers ️ You can add up if you got any new things to add in comments.

my boss threatened to sue me today

Well, I work as a contractor to an outsourcing company located in the US that has an abusive amount of days as notice period. I got another job offer that requires me to start sooner than later and won't be able to fulfill the agreement. It's it possible that they try to do something against me? I'm working from another country, which would make things even harder for them to try. Did anyone had a similar issue?

Apparently I was doing the work of two people.

Throwaway for the most part. So. I’ve been working in a very busy veterinary surgery service for the last two and a half years. I’ve grown a lot in this position. The animals are the only ones who make it worth it. Recently, I’ve made the decision to move my family away from our current situation. I submitted my formal resignation two weeks ago. I gave four weeks, because I’m a nice guy. Today, I was browsing around our job openings. When I got to my position it stated two positions were open. Maybe it was a typo? So I go ask my manager what’s up with that. She promptly says, “you were very kind to us and worked very hard. However, I don’t think any one person is able to do your job.” While i give them credit for looking out for the new guys, where was my extra…
