Its really fucked up how companies are gatekeeping entire industries

I work in IT and it seems like nowadays people under 40 may not apply. My current job is project manager, its the kind of job you get after years of being a tech, a dev or an analyst. Like, its already hard to even reach that point, some never do! Historically, it would take one about 10 years to become a PM. Yet somehow, reaching that point isnt enough anymore, nowadays to get hired as a pm, you need 10 years of experience as a pm, but since you already needed about 10 years of experience to even land such a position in the first place, that means all these companies ONLY hire people with 20 years of experience! And get that, most of the time you dont even have direct reports in such a position, you just lead and coordinate! I mean what in the actual fuck is…

Jumping Jobs Again, too soon? More $$$

I have only been at my current job for a month and a half now. From my last job to this job I gained a 30% increase in pay (hourly from 18 to 24)… On Indeed, another company messaged me on Indeed asking if I would be interested in applying to work at their brand new shop location. I have ties with this company, I have not worked directly for them but many of their drivers worked for my previous company. And their current terminal manager was one of my former terminal managers at my previous job as well. Their job posting is from $30-$36 an hour based on experience. I put my application in on Indeed and was chatting with one of the drivers I still talk to there and he told me to get in touch with the terminal manager as soon as possible because they were hiring…

My boss tried to call me in today since everyone called out. I didn’t answer the phone. What are some good excuses for never returning a call?

My girlfriend’s new job changed their mind about hiring her when she was supposed to start Monday.

Title pretty much sums it up and I just need to rant. My girlfriend works for a private school currently as an art teacher. The work environment there is super toxic. It's a for profit system since it's a private school, she (as well as the other teachers and educators) get 0 support from the higher ups, and her classroom is the only one in the basement so no one (aside from students) ever talks to her. She recently found a job listing in the public school sector that is perfect for her and when she applies, they told her that they wanted her to start ASAP. She put in her two weeks and this Friday is her last day. Well the new school called her today and said that because she doesn't have her teaching license/certificate yet (specifically because they don't know where she is at in the process…

Perception > Family

I’m not sure this is the right place for this post. Maybe I just need to vent or get your insights on how to move forward. For context, my father had a stroke last week. Unfortunately he has a long history of heart issues following a major heart attack a decade ago. Sadly the stroke was caused by a clot from the heart and the outcome is bleak at best. I just found out while home that he was told last year he would have 1-3 years to live. So two remaining, at best. That’s before the stroke and the new set of complications. In an effort to be proactive I took some concerns to my boss and asked for some room to navigate this with my family and to get some things off my plate to free up my mental head space. My real frustration began when that was…

Boss trying to force me into office over holiday

To get us to stop complaining about not having hybrid my work recently caved and gave us Friday and every other Monday WFH. Every other day we need to be in office. I switch off day/night shift with another employee and we rotate on a schedule with a third person for a position that is allowed to be totally WFH. So it's not awful but still, I am a social person and I do not get any fulfillment out of going into the office. My family lives out of state so when my boss was making the new schedule I, during a zoom meeting, requested to WFH if boss put me on the in office shifts so I could still easily visit my family and not have us short staffed. If not possible I said I would take vacation. Well she scheduled me for the in office position. Lately though…
