This is a bit of a rant/vent, but I thought it would be appreciated here. Background: I have been Acting Assistant Manager in customer service/retail for over 1.5 years. I learn quick, I am efficient (when I’m not dead on my feet), and I absolutely know what I Don’t Know. Store was training a New Lady (O) to be Ass Manager for another store. No biggie; we do this all the time. I cannot, by Policy, be promoted to Asst Manager, so I said, verbatim, “If O works out when I get back from vacation, offer her My Job.” Boss did so before I left for vacation. Cue to Present: Boss is On Vacation. We All would let the store burn to the ground before calling him. And he’s on Vacay, so the chances of him answering the phone are slim to NONE. O can’t lead, can’t manage, can’t remember…

Husband’s job, which is located in Austin, spent the last couple years hiring remote workers and today just announced they were doing away with WFH so either move to Texas or get fucked. We currently live in Washington state and literally just bought our first home in Michigan which we’re closing on in a few days. Job doesn’t care; it’s still move to Texas by November 1st or get fucked (they even have a satellite office 15 minutes from our new home, but nope it’s still Texas or nothing). So they’re losing a bunch of remote workers, morale bottomed out, and Austin can enjoy more commuter traffic and pollution, all because some asshole corpos don’t feel like streamlining their office space and prefer instead to jerk off to their control freak fantasies of looking down their noses at their cubicle jockeys (aka “monitor productivity”). Fuck corporate America!

I work at a bubble tea place, and the machine that seals the cup has a knife loop inside it to cut the plastic off. The other day on my way to work, I saw a text in the group chat apologizing for leaving early because the machine cut his the tip of his finger off… I ran there as fast as I could and arrived to see the shop closed, and the other two on shift (also teenagers) completely pale faced with blood absolutely everywhere. It was sprayed on the walls, on the counters, it even got in the boba. They told me the EMTs just left, and that the coworker in question had been adjusting the plastic wrap when the machine went off. It was a silly mistake, but he didn't actually know there was a knife inside it, and none of us are trained in using it…

Looking for a seasonal job and was scheduled for a zoom call interview today, was supposed to start at 2pm and i was 3 minutes early- it is now 2:15pm and they are still not here. If i was even 2 minutes late i bet they would have called me out on the spot. The thing that gets me is i had an in person interview at another job yesterday and i was 2 minutes early but i waited at this desk for 7 minutes for the manager that finally showed up, she didn't even apologize or anything. These companies treat us like our time means nothing.

So I work at a call center. I recently went to HR regarding an issue I had with my manager and since then I have a strong feeling my manager is retaliating and trying to make my job more miserable. Us agents have the ability to see who is ready and waiting for a call and for how long. I noticed ever since going to HR that I have been getting calls assigned to me on a priority basis. For example, I’ll be in an available state for 30 seconds, a colleague has been in an available state for 10, 20, even up to 30 minutes. Despite them having been queued for far longer, I get the next incoming call. We are both at the same job tier and he gets along with the manager very well due to being a kiss ass.
