Friend’s coworker just put in her notice

Friend of mine is an MA at a women's health practice. This place is already short-staffed, frequently sending people home to avoid OT before work is accomplished. A newer MA there is only 20 years old, has been there for several months. Likes the place, but it's not a career for her. Guess she has a three week class for something with beauty school coming up. Unfortunately she can't work during this time due to the schedule, but wanted to come back after the three weeks. Welp, management said they can't accommodate that, attempting to call her bluff. She just put in her notice instead. Now they have to replace her instead of just being crunched for a few weeks.

Laid off with only one paycheck worth of severance

Yesterday I was laid off from a job I had only been working for a total of 4 months after they recruited me to leave my last job to come work for them. A week into working for them, my previous job laid off almost 100 people including my old boss. 4 months later, I'm laid off and given a severance worth barely a full paycheck. I know it's not my fault but I feel so discouraged to find something new.

My “boss” is trying to make me quit by cutting off my hours

Hello everyone ! First of all, I'm not a native English speaker so I apologize for any mistakes I might make in this post. I just want to give a bit of context before giving the détails of the situation. I'm a foreign student in Quebec, and I work here too as a part-timer in a hotel. I really love my job, and for the first time in my working life, most of my colleagues are super nice and we really get along. About a month ago, our manager (front desk) quit because of the sales manager (she's a piece of work to put it nicely). I'll call her “Radish”, as its a vegetable I truly despise. So, Radish instaured a pretty toxic working environment, and she made a fair number of my colleagues quit. She never really liked me, and even made a “joke” about me being a “bag…

Unemployment Please Help

had been experiencing harrasment admist a hostile working environment and when i tried to bring it to the head of my management for a solution/resolution i was terminated for insubordination despite having worked there for almost an entire year without any issues or complaints regarding my duties and performance leaving me with a bad fit of depression and ptsd. After 2 unsuccessful weeks of trying to get a job, and no letter for a reason of my termination, I filed for unemployment. But due to the nature of my termination I didn't feel comfortable using any of the other reasons for my termination of than: trying to enact my civil right for my unemployment claim because my previous employer is notorious for sabotage/denying his employees for unemployment and I felt that if I surrender or submitted to any of the other reason for my termination then My previous employer would…

could i move into an apartment? yes probably.. but it would stretch my already little money even thinner. since lot rent is cheaper than apartments rent being 1 income i have to foot the bill on everything. i have no expensive habbits (no smoking or drinking etc) no children.. and i still barely get by. they can shove their $15 min wage up their asses we need change, and we need it fast.

“As a senior executive *swallows* what do you really…uhm…get paid to do?”

If only Bezos had the same philosophy for his servants—sorry—employees! I thought the prevailing advice was to devote your life to work, now some CEO is telling us we should prioritize our health?!

The Sick Note

I hate the sick note and all the culture around it. When I went into work on Friday, they were complaining about being short staffed today due to the long weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving). Being a broke student, I offered to pick up an extra shift. Long story short, I ended up getting sick (food poisoning, presumably from Thanksgiving dinner). I called in sick to work and was told I need to provide a doctor's note as “proof” of my illness due to the long weekend. I normally don't even work on Tuesdays, and now I have to haul my ass to my family doctor and pay $40 for the pleasure of being sick. And not get paid for working today, because who gets sick time in this economy? TLDR; Capitalism is absolutely soul crushing and there's truly no way to get ahead.

I hate that companies find issues even when work IS being done.

This continuously bothers me, wanted a rant and I feel like it belongs here so hopefully, it stays. Anyways… What I will say upfront, I am in the UK so that's the minimum wage situation (mentioned later), and that I have worked hospitality and am now an aerospace engineer, so I don't do the typical “office 9-5 job”, but I feel this could still apply to working from home, etc. To the rant… (it's a pretty long one) I AM SICK TO DEATH of employers having issues even when all the required work is being done. If I'm a waiter, and the restaurant is absolutely dead then it is (or should be) completely understandable that myself and the other staff will have a lot of downtime because… well there's no one to serve, so why does every 'part time' employer (I would class that as typical retail/hospitality, etc) insist on…
