My job doesn’t allow me to call off sick for the first 90 days of employment.

“Obviously if there is an emergency and you have documentation, you’re fine. But otherwise calling off in the first 3 months results in a write-up.” I am writing this post from work, sick. I do not feel good at all… I am sitting at my desk with 2 blankets on. I hate living in America. 🙁

Why Raise Interest Rates? Let’s Fix the Economy with a Minimum Wage Increase.

Rising Fed rates have done little about inflation or increasing unemployment. If the goal is to increase unemployment, raising the federal minimum wage would bring more people into the workforce. When people stop looking for work, the unemployment rate calculation goes down because they stop being counted. When people re-enter the workforce, unemployment rises. Raising the minimum wage would encourage people to look for jobs that would pay a higher wage. This would allow businesses to grow and make more money. And that's what capitalism is all about, I think. The best part is if you think this idea is B.S. it's still better than the Fed trying to cause unemployment and a recession to lower inflation. Plus, people get paid more.

My boss deleted my overtime

I am livid. I am also afraid of conflict. I work at a news outlet and was on call last weekend. During that time, my immediate supervisor instructed me to write two breaking news updates, proof another story, post them all to social media and add updates to another story. Because my personal laptop is a little on the slow side, it took me between 20-30 minutes to complete that. I make $18.48 per hour. I clocked in and out, resulting in a little bit of overtime, which I noticed had been deleted from my timesheet this morning. The second in command here is known to be a stickler about overtime and also, to be frank, a bully. He’s the one who deleted my OT. I’ve already contacted HR about this. I do not trust the person who did this to fix it without a fight or retaliation. I understand…

IF YOU ARE SICK – STAY THE FUCK HOME!

I am self employed and don't get around people as often as others working in retail, which is where my wife works. Most times I get sick, it's because my wife gets sick first. Since I am self-employed, I do not get sick days, so I lose money. It fucking boggles my mind how much of a goody two-shoes ass kisser people think they look like to their boss by showing up sick. Or saying shit like “I'd stay home, but I don't want to disappoint my team”. Wouldn't you be more disappointed if you got 3-4 members of your team sick, and none of them could come to work? Fuck your protestant work ethic. If you are sick with something highly contagious (Covid/Cold/Flu/etc), then STAY HOME.

My employer docked my pay because I quit

I work for a small cafe/bakery in Michigan. I put in my two weeks and my employer is docking my pay $2/hr for my remaining shifts…is this legal or is she just an asshole? Can I file a complaint with the department of labor or is this within her rights as a small business owner? Edit for more info: 3 weeks ago I tried to quit but was convinced to stay on part time for a few more weeks. At this time they gave me a raise of $2. It’s a toxic work environment and my boss sucks so last week I gave my official end date. During this convo she said she was gonna bump me back down to what I was at before. It’s not going below minimum wage. I agreed to keep the peace and have worked a couple shifts since then. But it isn’t sitting well…

Can I do anything about my abusive workplace?

As the title says, I'm trying to figure out what or even if I'm able to do anything about the things that happen at my workplace regularly. For a bit of context, it's a fast food place (I know it's not ideal but for the moment my only option) And in my 6 months or so that I've been here the list of things I've seen are. Daily wage theft. This happens to the people closing every night. We are expected to fully close, clean, restock, and prep for the morning shift within 1 hour of closing regardless of if we are fully staffed or not (which we aren't most of the time) or have to train new people. If we aren't done within one hour of closing the manager will clock everyone out and their excuse is “that's just how we do things here” and it's normally a full…

can my supervisor at work force me to spend my work break at the workplace?

Basically title. I work part-time in a German supermarket and live only a few minutes away from work, so sometimes I want to run errands in my 30min break. I know that I'm not insured by my work when I'm away, but I don't care. My supervisor is telling me not to leave work in that timeframe though. Is that even legal? And how should I respond?

My boss told me that I’m not doing my job.

My job has multiple job titles. I drive, I feed and change people, and also teach math. I work with people with disabilities in California, so I drive some clients from home to work, and from work to their homes using the company vehicle. I've been driving clients for two years now. Last week my boss asked for my personal car insurance since the last one I gave them expired. I said no since I don't drive my personal car, so there should be no reason for them to have my information. Boss got defensive, and said it was company policy. She printed out the company policy for me, and it said it right there, we need insurance to drive, and must have a certain policy. After taking the company policy home, I was really thinking about it. The company vehicles do not have any dash cameras. I am constantly…
