HR Question

I work in an environment where it’s supplemented by temporary contractors. There’s a few full time employees, but it’s mainly contractors. There are three shifts that overlap by 30-45 minutes as the shift changes, updates are given etc. The contractors are not managed by the supervisors, but by their agency that places them. That said, there is one contractor that is highly unprofessional in the following ways: takes 2 hour breaks while on the clock, is verbally aggressive to men and women, he shouted at the night supervisor “Look at me when I’m talking to you.” When I politely asked him to move so I could grab a needed item to complete my work task, he mimicked me and repeated what I said in a baby voice, a ‘Karen voice’ and many more. I looked at him like he was mentally unwell and he stopped. I don’t feel safe or…

This was on the supply cabinet today. You know this is management’s way of saying “We would talk to you like this if we could get away with it.”

Just quit a toxic office job

I’ve never experienced such hostile work environment from a company and I’m baffled this place even still exists. For starters they hired me with a $2500 bonus, then felt I was too new to the industry and decided to take it away. There was a hefty load of disrespect and patronizing going around before I finally decided to leave but, what really did me in was what happened this past Friday. I got bitched out and reprimanded to a supervisor for taking my own lunch box out of a trash can, lol. Apparently they started this new thing where they clean out the fridges every Friday at 2:00pm- when most of us didn’t get to take a break until at least 3. I came into the lunch room at 2:02 pm, hoped my (reusable) lunch box was still in the fridge, and didn’t see it there. I asked the woman…

Forbidden from discussing salary as per contract handed to me today… *help!*

Hey! I just received a job offer that I really would like to take. I negotiated salary and although they aren't doing me any favors and psychotherapists are already underpaid–they made it clear that they made an exception for me due to the fact that I have to pay $5k each year for outside supervision. Others in my same position are not getting as much I can assume. They want me to sign the contract today. The contract says that failure to keep my salary or employment agreement confidential could jeopardize my employment. This is illegal as per the National Labor Relations Act and I am big on normalizing talk about salary. What do I do? Sign? I am scared that if I say something they will rescind the offer. I also want to be free to talk about salary. They also made me sign a bunch of HIPPA agreements…

Bachelor’s Degree Required For A Part Time Receptionist Job?!

These business owners are so out of touch with the real world. The gig is a part time receptionist job at an account management company. The pay (get ready for this) is $15-17/hour…. Who is sitting down to post hiring ads and thinks a 4-year degree is required for a part time receptionist job that pays $18k a year with zero health benefits is going to land them any serious candidates?

Question: Why is the current generation getting called out for “quiet quitting” when it’s been going on much longer?

So, I get that part of it is just the current culture and someone came up with a catchy name for it. But I feel like millennials and Gen-Z are taking the brunt of the criticism, when I know many older people who are terrible at their jobs, don't do anything beyond what they are forced to do and refuse to retire because 'they need the insurance' or something. All of the people that I know personally who refuse to retire work in gov't jobs, are tenured professors, or work in jobs where they can't be fired as long as they don't cause trouble and meet the bare minimum requirements. Is there is a difference here? Am I just salty because I don't want to be criticized? Or is all this just a show for the older people who work in media to make the “young” people look bad?

Incredibly guilty over letting my boss know I’m searching for a new job

Hey everyone. Just need to vent, any reassurance/advice would also mean a lot to me. I’ve been at this job for 6 years, 3 of those as an assistant manager. It’s a busy fast food store. Out of about 800 stores, we are top 10 busiest, regularly hitting $100,000+ weeks. It’s insane. And it’s becoming a little too much with the understaffing. We recently got a new manager from another store that the owner runs, we’ll call him Rob. All the staff hates this guy. He’s passive aggressive: “hey wanna go clean dishes instead of standing there doing absolutely nothing” instead of a simple “hey can you do dishes”, for example. It’s driving me nuts. He’s fine with me but it is SO frustrating to hear the staff, which is full of high schoolers, say how upsetting it is to work with him. Another assistant manager is making $2 more…
