This is within my employee contract under “conflict of interest” for a digital marketing company. Maybe they should pay more than $55,000 a year if they wont “allow” their employee to make extra income! “During the term of your employment with us, it is understood and agreed that any business opportunity relating to or similar to our current or anticipated business opportunities is an opportunity belonging to our organization. You agree to advise us of the opportunity and cannot pursue the opportunity, directly or indirectly, without our written consent. During the term of your employment with us, you will not, directly or indirectly, engage or participate in any other business activities that we, in our reasonable discretion, determine to be in conflict with our best interests without our written consent. https://voteno82.com/ so this is whats frustrsting. Increasing wages and getting rid of tips would help by having steady paychecks. It also hurts the discussion when people WANT tips instead of a real wage. I feel like a handful of well paid servers want to skip paying taxes so the rest of the group suffers
So my job is pretty labor intensive and combined with being a full time student, I'm just exhausted. I want to take a day off but my manager is the type that will say I need a doctors note or Ill get written up. What would be a good response for when he says that?
Hey everyone, I recently started working as an usher at a local theater and I have only worked one shift so far, which went well. I was scheduled to go to work today but I woke up this morning feeling sick (sore throat, cough, congestion) so going into work feels irresponsible even though all employees are masked. However, at this company you can’t just call out unless you have someone else to cover your shift, which I wasn’t able to get in time. (Is this policy even legal?) I am so anxious that I will get fired and it’s difficult for me to get jobs due to my disability. Am I in the wrong here? Should I worry about being fired? What should I do?
My cousin died
And the manager for the restaurant she worked at (where all of the other staff were like family to her) told everyone no one could call out because of the funeral today. That is so insanely evil, but profits am I right?
Here I sit on my 15 minute break
I work in a wealthy part of Concord, NC at a fairly large discount retail store. Average transactions in the high 80’s while I only make 15.50 working MAYBE 36 hours a week, classified full time AND a key holder. I would LOVE to make enough to have that kind of expendable income, but as of right now, with my hours, I’ll make a little north of $21,500 in a year here. I have 10 years experience in retail and that’s what I make. I can’t afford to go part time and go to school, I can’t afford to quit and find another job. I just have to suck it up and smile at these people spending what I never could while I struggle to even eat lunch. Something’s gotta give man.
Alternative Take on self checkouts
Saw this topic a few times and wanted to share my thoughts. Self checkout can increase accessibility. People who have social anxiety, agoraphobia, panic disorder, autism, etc benefit from having the option to avoid forced social interactions. Stores often have their self checkouts arranged in a more open layout so people in wheelchairs, crutches, and other medical equipment may have more space to maneuver around than in the more narrow isles of cashiers. It also has an element of privacy. A young girl buying her first tampons or pads, an elderly man needing to buy adult diapers, a young woman buying condoms, a non-binary person buying personal hygiene and clothing items that make them feel more comfortable with themselves, a Trans woman buying makeup, a single college student buying pregnancy tests, on and on. Self checkout means being a bit more free and comfortable to buy what they want or…
