Companies going bankrupt…
I think it is funny to watch businesses struggle to retain good employees. Many businesses thought the pandemic was the hard part. They forgot about inflation and how to deal with it. Instead of focussing on profits and a good work environment they often blamed lower level employees for mistakes that managers or owners are responsible for and now are worried that no one wants to work for them. This is just the beginning of the purge. Many companies will go out of business in the next year and as they should. This is good for the economy and the work force. Owners and managers need to do a better job if they want to compete with other companies by providing livable wages and maintaining a profit with a healthy/safe work environment.

Two of my worst jobs were family owned, small businesses. They treated people like absolute shit. High expectations, low pay and zero respect. Ever been ganged up on for a laugh by two brothers? It's not fun. Yet, the plight of small businesses is always used as a defense against raising the minimum wage. Why are they special? If they can't pay a living wage, that's on them.
I worked at a terrible corporate job for a few years, and it was truly a miserable time in my life. Sometimes I feel like I need therapy from my time there. Is this normal, or am I overreacting?
Where I work, we had the end of our 3rd quarter message from the president. The gist of the email went like this: Highlighted growth and many new hires Highlighted more clients and project, increased backlog Company had their PPP loans “forgiven” At the very end of the email they state: “At this time we are still discussing salary increases, and should have a better understanding at the end of the year” I should note, that this company gave a 2 percent increase based on 2018 wages in the past 4 years. Does anyone have this type of tone deaf employers? Edit. I should mention we are private engineers who were essential and worked through pandemic.
