I have always been a hard worker and I am starting to feel the effect of favouritism as two of my other colleagues seem to be doing the bare minimum and getting away with it and one is on long-term sick leave, so I get loaded with all their work. I am constantly cleaning up after others' mistakes and incompetence, on top of coping with personal difficulties, I am heading in the direction of burnout and becoming depressed. How do I find ways to “quiet quit” without potentially getting in trouble? At this point, I feel that it's necessary in order to preserve my sanity.

I work a hellish job in a dollar store industry. Our stores close all the time and so do our competitor’s. The boomer customers are always saying folks don’t want to work and I correct them and explain to them that folks just need to be paid a livable wage and if companies invested in their employees that we would not see this happen and stores would stay open. We are dealing with inflation but they don’t raise the wages. Anyone else seeing dollar stores close in their areas? I am in Ohio. Thanks!

I started a job at a cafe in my hometown last month. The position was for a line/prep cook at 16-18 bucks an hour plus tips. Even though I had no real kitchen experience outside of fast food, I thought I’d apply anyway since I was having a bad time at my grocery store job. They interviewed me and had me come in for a second skills test interview where I had to make two items on the menu and some guacamole. They got back to me and adjusted the position so I’d be doing prep and utility work instead. They also cut the hourly down to 15. I was told that they commonly start inexperienced people in this role so they can build up their kitchen skills. We went to a friends house last night for some dinner, kids were decorating Halloween costumes, just bullshitting. Wages came up and I just said that to me it doesn’t matter what a person is doing for work, that even if they’re working a minimum wage job, if they’re doing this “required” 40 hour weeks they deserve to at least make a wage that covers the cost of living. It should be high enough to cover rent, food, and everything else we consider basic. I could tell that annoyed him an a minute later he excused himself for a little bit. I’m really starting to think less of people who hold opinions like these. To me it’s just a sign you are a shitty person. It sucks though cause I’m realizing a lot of people feel this way.

Judging how everyone pretends to be nice when you first get hired, I can say that jobs especially fast food seem to be meant for misery. Some people remain nice, but the majority of the people turn against you. The boss is taking the side of this rude petty manager AND I NEVER TOLD THEM MORE HOURS! I said more days, now I’m just looking for another job. I don’t know what’s wrong with employers in california. Women seem to be the worse to work with, but I don’t know because if I worked with guys either they would harass me and try flirting with me. Like one guy who tried to lead me on when he had a gf and then gossips about the conversation and tells everyone at the job about me.
