My apartment lease is up and there are no affordable/safe housing options in my area or the next towns over. My rent is increasing and inflation is really hitting my town. I have a full-time job as a graphic designer and I managed to find a part time job with easy hours and decent starting pay. I told my boss so there won’t be schedule mixups/overtime issues and they flipped out saying I shouldn’t do that because I’ll be too tired and it’ll affect my work there. I told them that I need to make more money to pay my bills and that I wish I didn’t need the second job but what else can I do? I’ve already cut back to bare necessities and other full time jobs are ones I don’t qualify for or they pay less than what I make currently. I shouldn’t be made to feel…
Month: October 2022
at least they’ll let me go home..
I shouldn’t have to beg for PTO
My company already gives below average days off every year, and we are also required to use PTO if we stay home sick. The icing on the cake is most PTO requests get denied as we are short staffed so work wouldn’t get done if people take time off. I shouldn’t be kept from using the time off that I have earned due to the staffing decisions of my employer.
video interview
I had an interview today over video call and the guy asked me about my background and then to send a copy of my resume to which I did, and he didn't receive it and then I read him back his email address to him 4 times and had it right then he OBVIOUSLY shook his phone around and then said “I have to go take care of something, send me your resume to my email and I'll get ahold of you” ………………..what a fucking douche bag,
Politics in the workplace
Hello! I am in graduate school and taking a leadership course. I have been tasked with asking people these 2 questions. Could you please describe the most annoying tactics of political behavior that you have observed in the work environment? Could you also describe the effective use of power or political tactics and provide a brief explanation?
the waiting game…
I think I was pretty much termed today. I had a meeting with my GM and her boss about complaints made against me from “15” employees. When I asked about them, and how could it be 15 when I don't work directly with 15 staff, suddenly it was 2 employees and the rest were customers/doordashers. She has been trying to let me go since December, and with her passive aggressive bs has almost succeeded numerous times. As of right now I am on a suspension and they will “let me know” their decision of keeping me, transferring me, or firing me in a “couple” of days. I don't even want to go back even if I wasn't termed… This has been the most toxic year of my life, and it's not even over…
My workplace is trying to institute a crazy sick leave policy ahead of a big deadline. We are pretty behind goals for this deadline at several offices. Mostly, we seem to be struggling with staffing, in addition to a number of other issues. So try and remedy this, management came out with a new policy, which will go into effect next week. According to the new rules, any who calls out sick will have to take a COVID test, and if that comes back negative they will have to report to the office where one of the managers will meet them outside and assess whether they are actually symptomatic. If the manager thinks they are sick then they are sent home for a sick day but if the manager thinks they are not sick then they are either required to work or get a doctor's note detailing why the can't…
For context: I am – or rather, I was – the Vice President and Chief Pilot of a small business in FL. Hurricane Ian just blew threw our HQ and wrecked things pretty good. Before the storm hit, I asked the owner to review our business continuity plan because the storm was increasing in intensity and we were bound to lose power, phone, internet, office space, etc. Pretty much everything to keep the business afloat no pun intended. He responded that he HAD NO PLAN. None. Zip. I protested. How could he have NO PLAN? He responded by saying he’s been in business for 40 years and that he would just game-time the decisions the day of. I protested again. I was shot down with a final, condescending “well how many hurricanes have you lived through?” At that point I told him I was in an evacuation zone and that…
Here’s who we’re NOT looking for:
We started with pizza places. I live in Philadelphia so a lot more places are offering $15/hour. Except, businesses told us 15 is for “adults with experience”. He was either too young, had no experience, or both. He really wants a job, WANTS to work, but no one will hire him. He’s a sophomore in high school and wants extra cash. But hey, “nobody wants to work anymore”
