So all that is going on it leads one to wonder what are the solutions to the current problems. And some people say a potential answer to the current problems is to become self-employed or work for yourself on something that you actually enjoy, or that you really care about or that you’re really good at and provide good quality products or services to people on a more small scale basis And bringing back the qualities that was more Common in the past such as operating a small scale independently own business that is a more intimate business with the immediate communities etc. So my question is what would happen or Would the world be able to function if everybody was self-employed or huge percentage of people suddenly became self-employed. And does working for yourself really resolve the issues that are associated with working for other people?

They are a symptom of corporations fear. Every post in this sub gets filled with comments about how everybody sounds lazy or entitled. If any Joe can pay $200 dollars to get a post to the front page what do you think corporations can do with millions of dollars and an army of bot accounts? The fear of companies now facing strikes and unions is palpable here and in media. Continue to be strong. Enjoying your time off and prioritizing it is not laziness no matter how much they try to rebrand it as such. If you choose to work in exchange for money that exchange happens on your terms not your employers. You provide the value to the company so make them treat you that way.

I worked thanksgiving under the assumption I was getting holiday pay. It made it worth it to me, instead of spending the day with my little family. They TOLD ME I would get holiday pay. About an hour before my scheduled shift was to end, it was dead. Nobody coming or going. So I asked to go early, they said…”sure that’s fine, orrrr you can stay and get another hour of holiday pay! Think of it like that :)” so I fucking stayed. Only to find out the next morning I’m not qualified for it as I’m in my 90 day period. I’m frustrated, and honestly a little depressed over it. I understand that’s a dumb thing to get sad over, but I kept motivating myself thanksgiving with the thought of all the money I was desperately in need of and would be getting. I work at a brewery doing their food, and I’m scheduled to work every Friday and Saturday unless I ask off. One of the other cooks only works Monday-Thursday. After my fry cook got into an accident and didn’t show up today, I told him I was done working every weekend. Other people here can share the load, it isn’t right that I always have to give up weekends.

Hi all. I worked at a leisure establishment at the beginning of this year. It was an old place, open since the 60/70’s and it was a great place to be. They recently tore down the building as they were refurbishing a new centre that cost $27m+. Problems have occurred since the transition. One, there is about 10 car parking spaces for workers even though there’s about 60+ working there. We’ve been told we can’t access it sometimes as they have stage setups loading in and told us to use other areas. Areas that have no street lights or you have to pay and display a ticket (that won’t be refunded). The staff room is like a shoe closet, has a mini fridge that is always full and nothing else. 4 chairs and a small table. Meanwhile the bosses have their own fridge and microwave in their office. It's my understanding that they are in breach of GDPR laws and you can't be forced to join them. Currently I am having some bother with my manager over this and would appreciate some assistance on clarifying where I stand here? Can I tell them to go fuck themselves (in the politest means possible, of course) and insist they use effective workplace communication instead of just what's convenient for themselves or am I fighting a losing battle?

My job is extremely toxic, filled with micromanaging, narcissism, and bullying by leadership. I’ve been there 6 months and they’ve given me 2 peoples jobs on top of my own after they were fired or quit, with no raise or barely even a thank you. I’ve been trying to find another job but something weird is happening now I’m curious about. My supervisor just left and they were the only one who had my back. So now it’s going to be untenable. Anyway, leadership told me that they’ve been searching for a contractor to write emails and articles (a huge chunk of my original job responsibilities) because they say I’m not fully understanding their “voice” yet.
