So, like the title says, my ex-boss is suing me over an old unemployment case because he says that what happened is not the truth. To provide some context, it was a small, family owned resturant in my town that is known for hiring just about anybody who asks, regardless of background. I was hired on just before the pandemic as a server and didn't know anything about how timecards work as it was my first real job. Timekeeping was meant to be done by employees through their phones in order to keep track of the time that they spend on the clock and how much gross earnings they have pending, but I didn't have a phone at the time so one of the managers on duty would always handle my time FOR me. That's where things get a little hairy. A while after I started working there, one of…
Non 9-5 job recommendations ?
By that I mean salary wise white collar jobs where one can earn depending upon one's skill and also where one can work when one pleases like for example 3-4 days a week, for maybe 4-5 hours per working day. I have no knowledge of technical skills like plumbing or electric wiring etc. No manual labour. Jobs which are like some desk jobs or something but should meet my time criteria mentioned. Or some non desk jobs that require travelling and going places but with very less risk or stress involved. Any help would be appreciated.
I got a €50 raise for my half year performance review. They do these every half year, and the maximum raise I could have gotten was €450. They practically begged me to take up the job of overseeing and training in a customer service department, so I could train the new team when they arrive. It's extremely inconvenient for me travel wise, and I didn't want to do it as I loved the function I was doing at the moment, but I figured I'd win good faith and appreciation if I saved their asses so I took the assignment. Two months in, I get a performance review telling me I didn't do enough self improvement over the last period, and my current team leader hasn't worked with me yet so they don't know me, and they got all of their talking points from third parties. I feel fucking betrayed after…
When I returned to work from viral infection the boss immediately made a remark about me flying to exotic country to attend a conference. Is it legal for them to make such comment even? Labour laws? Employment laws? In Canada. Basically the boss was checking just to be sure kinda thing, but still wtf
In every workplace I’ve been in, people were scrambling to survive. The interpersonal dynamics were hostile.
hospitality…
So I work as a line cook. And I just got quite sick (just a standard virus). And what I find funny is that I work in one of the fields. That people should be most conscientious about being healthy when they go to work. We literally handle the food that people put in their mouths. Here's the issue in my entire decade-long career in hospitality I've never worked for a company that gave you paid time off. Considering over 50% of Canadians live paycheck to paycheck taking time off to recover at your own expense isn't really an option. And even if you're lucky enough to have savings to fall back on no one likes draining their bank account just because they got sick. So I'm going to work today even though I'm still not healthy. Because I've already lost probably close to $300.
What is it like to work in the US?
I see that most of the users work in the United States so I ask how they work there. (Even a guy who lives in country X can tell how it is). I live in Europe and I generally see that the American dream has always been that of the most democratic nation in the world, of meritocracy and of the most developed nation where there is work. I've heard opinions of people who said “In America you can find work even if you have no experience” “In America there is meritocracy” but how true is this? My mom's close friend told my mom “Bring your son here, he'll find a job right away”. My mom's friend is happy to live in the US and she and her husband are simply blue collar workers. Thank you
No one else I’ve talked to has had one ever. So, first, this had to be purposeful to ruin the holiday, right? And secondly, sounds like she’s trying to build a case to fire me, no?
(Sorry, I'm not sure if this belongs here) Our shift ends at 6pm, but it's extremely common that colleagues (even from previous companies I worked for) will stay till 6:30 pm or even 7:30 pm. The problems is that when I'm in a call with them, I find it hard to say “look, I'm leaving now, we'll finish tomorrow”. And I also feel almost guilty when I close the pc at 6pm knowing that they are online even 1 hour later. How can deal with these kind of things?
