I am working as a research associate with minimal PA work with a professor. When I applied for the job, the description didn’t state any PA duties but they added in when I got offered the position. They said it only comprises about 10% of PA work. I accepted the job. Fast forward 9 months later, I found that the research needs have been decreasing while there is an increase in PA duties. I feel dissatisfied but will stay until I get a new job. Back to the original question. They just hired a new manager, and wants me to help him out as a PA for a couple of months until they hire someone for him. I’m already frustrated that my current role doesn’t live up to my expectations. This also means even less research duties. HR said they spoke to my professor and she is ok with the…
Month: November 2022
I am interviewing for an internal fully remote position on Monday I am thinking about relocating to another state to be closer to family. However, there is an “approved states” list my employer goes by. The state I would be thinking about moving to is not one of states on the list HOWEVER, there have been about five or six people who have been hired after me, in the same capacity as my position, that live in states that are not on the approved list. My question is, should I mention it to the hiring manager? I would like to mention it just to put it out there. The recruiter I talked to told me that it would be a good thing to mention, plus I think I would have to talk to HR about it anyway. But I didn’t want to mention it, in that it has an influence…
Quiet quitting my job, part two
So yesterday, I had a bad fall in my house. My geriatric dog pissed on the floor & I didn't see it when I was walking to the bathroom. I fell backwards & my right leg got pinned under me. It was severely painful & scary enough that my nine year old almost called 911 because I couldn't get up. I was able to once he brought a dining room chair over for me to hold on to. I called my mom to come over & she took me to the ER. Thank God I have no fractures, but I have a sprained ankle, knee contusion & swelling in my lower leg. Because I work from home, I told my manager via text. For some reason, she called it a “personal day” & the VP wrote to an email about following the new procedures for calling out. Since he sent…
Basically what the title says. We rotate every 3rd holiday and weekend. Because Christmas falls on my weekend and our department (in a hospital) doesn't celebrate it on the actual day of, I have to work that even though I'm working Thanksgiving. One of the deciding points for this job was I wouldn't work both of the 2 big holidays, which I specifically asked about. (I've worked both for years, and frankly, any company who allows or forces it is shit). I don't mind working one or the other, but my family is getting older, and time with them is limited and precious. I left a job where I had both Thanksgiving and Christmas off for the opportunities here. I'm furious. They are trying to explain why it makes sense and is fair but I am failing to see why an arbitrary weekday off for the holidays make more sense…
Find your own coverage when calling out!
As a manager of multiple teams I can flat out tell you the above line is absolute BS and any company that requires you to do this, is NOT a company you want to work for. Our job as managers/leads it to make sure there is coverage, it is never on the employees to find their own coverage, if you are a manager doing this practice you need to stop now!
I worked at a security position at a meat packing plant for about two weeks until today. They only gave me two days of training which covered not that much. I had two posts, one at the employee entrance where i just sit there and watch cameras, and the other post at a truck gate. That truck gate is hell. Every time a truck comes in or out I gotta fill out paperwork and it’s just me there. Yesterday, when I was there, there was so many goddamn trucks I had piles of it unfinished. Anytime I think I have time to file it, more come in. Then, They want me to stay over, unpaid, and have it all filled out cause day shift, with three people on their shift, doesn’t want to do it. Tonight I just couldn’t do it anymore, I told them I’m out.
So my CEO sent out a message of thanks for thanksgiving for 2 members of my team. How they improved the business processes, and I just can’t help but feel a bit jealous. Number one I also made a business process improvement and received commendations from my direct supervisor, but not the CEO. Also, one of the team members who did receive the thanks from I had previously did his role about two years ago, and during that time I improved the business process so much that all the team member had to do is update it with the 2022 numbers in and add his name to it. Next one on one meeting with my supervisor I’m going to explain my disappointment since I wasn’t included in the thanks as well…
Annoying Work Situation
So my large company hosted a company wide survey for how teams are doing and tested different areas. During the debrief and discussion on my teams survey results, we talked about what we will do next year to improve the scores. I (25F) volunteered for one of them and me and another guy are partnering on this. He is only a few years older than me. Last week we got a reminder from the team leader to get started brainstorming. After I get an email from buddy saying “ hey, let’s get started on this. Please schedule some time with me.” I was super triggered by this because it’s like if you know we need to meet why can’t you just schedule the meeting. So before my anger were off, I scheduled the meeting & I wrote back with full animosity “next time feel free to schedule the meeting, my…
