Delusional boomer boss fired me because he didn’t understand prioritising.

Worked at a small software startup a few years back. The owner called an all-hands (only like 4 of us. lol) meeting to discuss the future of the company and the changing focus towards cashflow due to cashflow issues in the company. During the meeting, the engineering team asked for clarification on how to prioritise their efforts. The boss was confused what he meant by prioritising and the lead engineer explained that they didn’t have enough time and resources to accomplish everything the boss was laying out. The boss’s response was “I don’t look at our resources and decide what can be accomplished. I look at all I want to accomplish and then make it all happen”. After a moment of silence by all, I spoke up. I explained that it’s fine for him to work as hard as he likes and as much as he likes, because he has…

My life’s work

None of the transactions and exchanges that I experience in a common day have any humane feeling of  “How can I help my community, my tribe, my family become stronger, happier, and healthier?” All of my effort, energy, and time is to help, by the smallest and most inconvenienced and insignificant bit, make some stock price inch a feather of a touch higher. Have I gone too far down a dark rabbit hole?

work won’t give me the pay i was offered

so i got a job at a restaurant as a food runner and during the interview and onboarding i was told that that pay rate was 13.50. i signed my contract as 13.50. after a couple weeks i was noticing i was only getting 12.50. i asked my boss and was told that the system maxed out at 12.50 and he should never have offered me that. i backed down too easily because i’m scared of confrontation but is this legal?? like how can they get away with offering me one thing and giving me a dollar less. for context i’m in NY

Boss offered me promotion but only 10% raise

Today my boss offered me a promotion that we have been talking about for about 2-3 years now. 10% is what he offered. I am going to counter with 20%? I think I should ask for more though, as I have been a top performer for the past 2-3 years now, exceeding expectations at every review consistently. I am a field service tech that has only been doing the job for 6 years going on 7 now. Most of my peers have 15-25 years of “experience”. The promotion would be to a 2nd team lead (assistant) for the area I work in. Even with the 10% increase in pay I would not be making the same as some of the older techs. How do I get more than a 20% raise? Like 20% is just enough for me to consider becoming a team lead. I am very comfortable where I…

Refused a “promotion”

I work manufacturing as an operator and make $30/hr. A sub-supervisor position opened up and I was offered it. I told them I would consider it. I learned that the role of the position is you're essentially filling in when the supervisor is not there (not out of the ordinary). What I also found out is you hold the position, but you only get paid for the position when the supervisor is out and you are covering. The raise is $1/hr. I told them I fundamentally disagreed with that kind of raise, I am an hourly employee and I have never worked a job where a promotion came with that kind of provisional pay. Not only that, but a 3% raise? No thank you. Our annual “cost of living” raise was higher than that.

I was fired for being hospitalized

2 months ago I had a mental breakdown (mostly due to work), and was hospitalized for a bit. After that I was discharged to a partial hospitalization program, but left early as I didn't have anymore PTO, and couldn't afford to miss work. When I returned to work I told my supervisor I was looking for a new job, because I thought it was only fair to give them warning. Silly fucking me. They immediately started looking for another person to fill the spot. Meanwhile I was so overloaded with work my mental health issues were getting worse. I decided that I should seek help again. I asked my supervisor, and HR manager if I could take leave again to go back, and finish out the partial hospitalization program. They both agreed to this, and told me to just focus on getting better, and only asked that I give a…
