I had an issue of a lost piece of my car at a garage and called the place only to be told it wasn’t there by the manager. I went to the place only to get the same dismissive treatment from the manager, but once the employee showed up with what I was looking for the manager was going to have a conversation with the employee. TBF it was the employee’s fault initially, but she actually helped me. I didn’t like how I was treated by the manager, nor did I like how she treated the employee. I wrote an email only to be told by the district manager that I don’t know the whole story. I am in an argument with my friend who insists that anyone can reasonably make a wage so long as they go to college or trade school, which they insist is doable for everyone in America. They said this is necessary for starting a family, so people shouldn’t have a child if they can’t afford it, as that is what they did (in the 80’s). I am having difficulty finding reasonable counterclaims, so are there any personal anecdotes or evidence you can provide? Sorry about the unusual post. I would be willing to post it somewhere else if more applicable there.

I (23F) worked for a real estate company. I worked there for seven months. I knew when I got hired that I wasn’t qualified for the job, but I really really tried hard to do my best. I showed up early every day, did what I was told, and never gave any grief about anything. I knew my one boss (M26) didn’t really like me, I could just tell. I run a machine at my job. My relief operator clocks in at the last minute and it takes 3 or 4 minutes to make it back to our line. I can't stop my machine at the drop of a hat without making scrap, so I need to get to a stopping point. I have been shutting down when I won't have time to finish a unit before quitting time. That might be as much as 25 minutes before quitting time. My boss doesn't like it. I don't like having to stay over on a 12 hour shift. We're at an impasse.

Just letting you know I've also moved on to include song lyrics I reformat to fit the place I'm supposed to retype my notes into. Started going with one of my favorite bands, the velvet underground. Monday will be week 2 of this journey. Thank you for your support. So far not one damn person that they said was going to ” review and critique for educational purposes” has said a damn thing or sent any of the pages back to my desk My plan is, since they're firing everyone and replacing us with their own people, I want to see how long- how many days / weeks will it take for someone who is now supposed to be critiquing my hard copies, to actually, you know, read what I've been submitting as required.

Hi all, long time lurkers here. Just had to vent a little bit, hopefully I don't violate any rules. I work in a research lab at a prestigious university and now I understand why researchers in UC are going to strike wholeheartedly. I already froze all my cell lines before the break so I could thaw them and resume my experiment next Monday, but my colleagues (three people, including me, working in a lab with annual funding of 1 million, everyone works 3-4 projects because boss is too stingy to hire more people , go figure) might have left some cells in the incubator. Boss wrote a thousand-word essay saying it is unethical to let cells overgrow and die because they are living things and also mentioned that we should avoid freezing cells because that would be wasting time for cells to resume growth.
