Month: December 2022
I guess this is a rant post. I’m F21 and I have two learning disabilities. I job hop often, probably because employers cut-back my hours due to my “workmenship” instead of firing me. I know sometimes it takes a bit more for me to learn/do something, but I always try my best or makeup for minor mistakes. I’m motivated to improve in my job, bond with coworkers, and look for mentorship. Although, I guess employers always just see negative traits in me. 🙁 Ironically enough, that’s what my current employer is cutting back my hours, yet makes me do all the dirty work (such as cleaning; I never see other coworkers doing this) AND this is the second time a company throws this (punishment?) at me! What’s up with employers giving you less hours and making you ONLY do the useless, time-consuming stuff. Like, do you want me to work…
Today I go on my paid Christmas vacation
I will be back at work January second and I’m bringing my work phone because if my boss calls me the vacation is interrupted and they have to give me comp vacation for the full amount of time at a later point. I am not posting this to brag. I’m posting this to let everybody know that this is achievable and should be normal. Don’t accept any less, you’re all worth so much more! Happy holidays!
So, I have been working for an employer for a while now. I was hired with the promise of telework. All the (spoken) language conveyed this. I had been doing telework, quite happily. Recently I was changed to an on site position. (The training they had us do? The teachers were remoting in. But not us. Which… was beyond asinine. Some of it was better done in person, but it would have been best if we did most of it WFH then came in for the week of OJT that was best done in person) They get 90 days (my contract states they cannot move me out of the department I was hired for for longer than 90 days). If I am not put back on telework by the end of that? I fucking quit. No holds barred. And on my exit interview I will cite the blatant lies, deception,…
Job is sooooo accommodating.. not
So this is my first time posting. Just for some background I have a disability. I’ve been working for this telecom company for almost a year. I recently had a disease progression and my doctor and my care team wants me to work from home so I can limit my exposure to potential infection. She also put me on potent immunosuppressive therapies. Fast forward. I requested a reasonable accommodation for my job. It would be a lateral transfer from field work to answering calls in a tech support role. They were gung-ho to accommodate me. Except not for the role. They made me apply for these other internal jobs that I have no idea how to do. Went to these interviews and they denied me these jobs because “I have ruffled feathers” ( 1) I’ve never been written up. Never had a verbal warning and they wouldn’t help me find…
I (28M) am a crane operator in construction. Next week i have to place floors for wich i need special lifting chains. But the supervisor doesn’t want to buy these tools. In order for me to safely conduct my work i need these. He says if i don’t like it i can go home, but he can’t tell me to go home because i’m on contract and he doesn’t have the authority. Also how is he gonna do this legally? By laying me off because i don’t want to violate safety rules? Smh 🤦️ If i stay but tell him i won’t lift he will probably hate me for it and it will affect the working atmosphere. Or i could just quit this site but it wil cost my employer revenue and if then he doesn’t take my side on this i will probably quit my job while i’m at…
Hello there, I'm new to this subreddit. However, I already know about the anti-work ideology thanks to fictional works like the Iain M. Banks's Culture series, Star Trek, Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising, etc. Now with introductions taken care of, I have a question for you people. /u/Halasham and other people with a similar mindset say the only way to have a work-free, and better, future is to violently revolt against the 1% and anyone that supports them. However, there are solarpunks, like /u/EricHunting for example, say such a revolution is unlikely going to happen as our current unstainable system, combined with the effects Climate Change will bring when it reaches its peak, will cause the collapse of society and that we can use that oppturnity to rebuild society that's more sustainable. So, which one do you think is going to happen first to build a better future: a global social…
2 weeks into my new job and I'm already wanting to call it quits. I cannot work with this guy who has been training me. He is so fucking overbearing, bossy, arrogant, tries to act like my boss. The guy is still new too himself to top it all off. 2 hours into my shift tonight I almost decided to say I wasn't feeling well and go home, because I'm about to snap. He says to me “don't ever just be standing around, always ask me for the next task”. Which he also said that to me just the other day. Apparently our lead has been “bitching” but I haven't heard her say anything at all. Okay so I grab the swiffer to clean the floor so I'm not “standing around”. He immediately berates me and tells me to go do this instead. All night long it's non-stop barking orders.…
