That's it. This weekend is strike weekend for us. Long live the strike!
Month: December 2022
The insidious apathy of coworkers
My employer starts everyone casual then you eventually get part time. Full time employment is rare, and ever decreasing as boomers retire and their positions become allocated to other shifts or split into two part time shifts. Meeting my financial needs means needing a second job, while meeting both my employers needs means I can end up working 7 days a week between two places. From their individual perspectives I have a few days “off” where I'm at the other employer. Finding a second employer to be flexible was difficult enough. What gets me is the apathy of my coworkers. While I understand little can be done, they seem to side with the employer, always saying, “That's the job. You need two jobs these days. If you don't like it they'll just find someone else.” I don't understand these people. I understand needing a pay check, what I don't understand…

Gru has a plan for us.
I work for a large health care corporation in the health insurance sector. The company went remote in 2020 and I started for them later that year. The first year for Christmas they did like a weeks worth of virtual events. Last year they did the same. Never a bonus or gift given as long as I've been here. Well this year there has been no talk about Christmas. One of my coworkers sent out a teams chat saying that back in 2019 they had an awesome Christmas party with thousands of dollars worth of gifts for everyone. Basically threw a bunch of higher ups name out there. It was pretty funny, anyhow only myself and two other people responded to the post and he quit or was fired that day. Idk for sure I just know he hasn't been back since. I'm planning to leave the company shortly after…

asking for time off to visit family
This travel takes place in mid May, so if I ask for it off I should be fine, right? I'm only worried that Imma realize the job I have, that I actually like, is gonna become a job I need to leave because this visit is important. Any advice or tips? I think I know what I will do, but I feel posting this here I'll see that I am right in my thinking. Now I like this job, I really do. The people I work with are awesome, I've never had any issues that I felt I need to find another job.
