Anti-exploitation

It’s not that I am antiwork, I am anti-explotation. But the unfortunate reality is most work is explotation. Benfitting someone else far more than the worker.

Creative jobs

Remember not too long ago when article after article came out telling us which jobs would fall to “robot” automation and which jobs where kinda safer bets? And remember when we all kinda snickered when they told us a bunch of white-collar & finance jobs were NOT safe (haha mfrs!) ? And remember when they told us that creative jobs… jobs that incorporate the human touch… where still sorta safe? Remember us laughing? Remember us so smug?

Should I quit before lining up a new job?

Hey guys, I need some advice on whether I should quit my current job before I line up a new job. To provide you with context to my reasoning for wanting to quit (skip to TLDR section if it's too long – I just need to get this shit off my chest): My coworker who I got along with really well recently quit, and I was promoted to her position (we basically had the same job – she just had the senior position, whereas I had the junior position). I was expecting a higher salary because I would be taking on a lot more work if I accepted that offer. My coworker who quit also informed me about how much she was making when they first hired her and how much she was making before she quit. The amount wasn't great but it was still better than mine, and I…

An employer asked for a recommendation (personal friend + former employee) by EOD. Yeah, I don’t have time for this. 7 in-depth questions?? I feel like I’m the one being interviewed.

Need help finessing a better job/interviewing with dodgy QA experience

Hello y’all. So I graduated over Covid with a BA in History (don’t ask me why) and went straight to the only job I could get, Substitute teacher. I quickly realized I’m too young and not being paid enough to take this job seriously. Anyway, I applied for a gig at a 3rd party company (Wipro lmtd.) to do triage (QA testing) for Meta. Long story short, the third party Company (based in India) never managed to send me a work laptop and I was never properly trained. However I’ve been using this job exp. As a way to get my foot in the door for interviews but I can’t actually talk about any real life exp. I need help knowing basics job tasks, how to answer interview questions that relate QA tasks to skills, or a day in the life of a QA. I’m thinking I can be sort…

Consequences of AI

What jobs will be leftover? Will lawyers even need legal assistants? Will we even need lawyers? Will we need cashiers? Will we need bank tellers? Will we need loan originators? Will we need most software engineers? Will self-driving cars put Uber and DoorDash drivers out of business? Will most people end up being slaves, while the billionaires own everything and keep making more companies? Will the billionaires effectively depopulate the planet, by making it impossible for the rest of us to start families of significant size? How will we make enough to feed ourselves? Things seem pretty bad for the future of humanity.

How I treat people

I'd like to share how I run my office and give a bit of positivity. After many years of getting of getting dumped on, including a horrendous stint at the largest big box store in America, I'm finally in a position influence how things are run in my current work. Getting qualified people into the office isn't the easiest thing, so here is what I do to ensure I hold onto the talent that I've got: When it comes to attendance – there is no physical time clock. We all know when the work day starts and ends. If you're going to be late, that's OK. Just let me know if you'll be more than 15 minutes late. Things happen. If you need to leave 10, 20, 30 minutes early, just go. I'm not going to make people take leave for anything under an hour. You get a paid lunch…

Stealing company time??

So I’m a truck driver and I just got called to my boss and found out they’ve been watching me on the cameras for the past month to see when I was clocking in and clocking out (we have a time clock app). Usually I clock in as soon as I park my car or if I have to call one of the other drivers to figure out the plan for the day (we do our own logistics which is no fun). I’ve always justified it by thinking if I’m texting or calling about work, I’m getting paid for it because that’s not personal time. They’ve been adding up minutes between when I clock in and when I start driving for the past month and then drop it on me that I’ve stolen 110 minutes or whatever. This has been a brutal season for deliveries and we’ve had to do…
