i feel like i’m at my wits end. i’m working 50 hour work weeks, putting 100 hours on my paychecks but i’ve barely seen a difference. i’m struggling financially, even with the overtime. nowhere wants to hire me except fast food and such because i don’t have a degree, but i don’t want to continue working in the fast food industry. i don’t know what to do. i just want to be able to make ends meet without taking 100 hours out of every two weeks of my life. i guess i just wanted to vent. i don’t know what to do. thanks for listening.
Month: December 2022
I worked for a big furniture company for over 4 years and left September '22. Every year we qualify for a bonus if we reach the goals previously set. Up until last year, you'd qualify for it if you worked for the company for at least 6months and were still employed as of 31st August (FY differs from standard Australian one). I just heard news the company qualified for a bonus and received it yesterday (usually paid out Nov/Dec). I should have also received it but I was told by a friend that still works for the company that apparently they changed the rules a few weeks ago and decided you had to be employed until the last update of the bonus, which came out mid October. Do I have any grounds to contest this since the bonus was paid out because of the goals reached between September 1st 2021…
A crappy bag with the company logo, a notebook with the company logo, also we got a stupid QR code to go online and choose a “gift of our choice” which is just either a hat or an umbrella with their logo on it. Mind you, my job consists of serving underprivileged individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. Every field is a goddamn joke.
FYI – How to Document Work Issues
This is a universal tip, doesn’t matter what kind of work you do, what country or if the issue is minor or major. On the day the incident happens, send yourself an email. Title it “File Note – [Date]” Then write as plainly as you can what happened. For example, “my manager made an unwanted sexual advance towards me”. Then you can write how it made you feel. “It can me feel uncomfortable and afraid for my personal safety”. Obviously use a personal email address. If you are in a situation involving HR, lawyers or the like and you bust out a bunch of file notes in this format, it will greatly help you. Even if you don’t feel like you will ever need it, get in the habit. Even the most minor of things.
no one wants to work…..
My fiance has worked for a company for six months. He told them when he started he could only work days because I work nights. That has been done for six months. Now, all of a sudden it is a problem. He went to go into work today and found out they changed his schedule to work at the same time I work. It's not that people don't want to work, they just don't want to be a slave to that jobs.
Thoughts please
My sister’s job just moved her down to part time bc her “hours were inconsistent” because she’s pregnant and has had to leave a few times for dr’s appointments with her baby dr. She was supposed to get 3 weeks paid off for after her delivery, and she just hit her 9mo mark and her job knows that. It’s a little fishy to me… thoughts? I feel so bad for her.
Probably Leaving My Job
Longtime lurker here. I'm in a tough spot at work right now and really bummed about it. I should start off by saying that I actually love my current job. I do work that is fulfilling, that creates a positive impact on the lives of other people. And the team I work with is amazing. Everything is perfect except for one thing. We recently got new leadership, and with that comes changes. The new guy is great, except he's of the generation that believes working in the office is the only right way to do it. Last year, I moved an hour away from where I work because the area was too religiously conservative for me. The expectation was 2–3 days from home a week, and only 2–3 in-person. Well now, the new guy is requiring everyone to start working in the office 4 days a week, and we have…
The “Great Company to Work For”
I'm going to preface this by saying that this job is GENUINELY better than any I've had before and that the company IS great to work for by today's standards. But I'm still sitting here during a townhall listening to them report on how they wined and dined the execs and our industry partners this past week (invite-only event that most employees were excluded from), just as they've announced a second round of layoffs. Capitalism is fucked.
