I’m so sick of putting up with interviewers being late or not showing up

I’m young, so most of the jobs I interview for are either internships or local food businesses around my campus. The amount of bullshit I have seen really surprises me. Potential employers are ten minutes late to our interviews, or they don’t show up at all and send me an email later apologizing and asking to reschedule. I’m so sick of it because 1) I know for sure that if I pulled this, people would not hire me, but somehow it’s okay when they do it? And 2) it’s flat out just disrespectful of my time. Why do people think these are acceptable practices?

A False Economy

This was originally a reply elsewhere, but I thought it might be interesting for everyone…. Slightly edited for better clarity. “I recently sold my company to a publicly traded “PLC” and I could go on for days about how much of a shit show it is. About how everything that causes “restructuring” and layoffs generally comes down to leaders that are only there to manage upwards. It’s all about telling the group CEO/Board that the crops are growing great, meanwhile no one has planted any seeds… The entirety of corporate thinking is all optics for the shareholders… which rather than the general idea that the shareholders are a large group of scattered grandpas and grandmas in Tulsa Oklahoma… they’re actually a very small set of investment groups and individuals which hold large chunks of stock. The result is an entire organization more concerned about the fickle happiness of three shareholders…

Help saying “I told you so”

I started working as a contract employee for a small company about two years ago. Last month they onboarded me as an employee, part-time 30 hours a week. They have finally started hiring more staff and I have been a part of the training process. This job has not been easy for me, the systems they had in place were confusing, convoluted and resulted in a lot of wasted time and unnecessary steps. The person who trained me and is now my manager was extremely frustrated with me, made shitty comments about my lack of skill and time management. I have. cried at the end of almost every day. Now that we are training new people, the redundancies in the system have become obvious that is was not a failure on my part, which I was always blamed for in the past. I dislike my manager immensely and I would…

Got a raise for “compliance and regulatory standards.” What does this mean?

I recently received a raise that was given based on “compliance and regulatory standards” and frankly I have no idea what this means. It sounded like I wasn't the only one receiving this. Is there some law requiring them to up my pay if they hire others at a higher rate for my position? I'm in Washington state

Converting from contractor to FTE. How should I proceed given a lowball base salary figure?

After almost three years at my assignment I’m in the process of converting from an agency contractor (W2) at an hourly rate, to a salaried full-time employee at the client. I was expecting a salary a little lower than the equivalent of my current hourly rate as is typically expected to account for added benefits, but the initial offer I’ve been given is at a whopping 13% lower than what my hourly rate comes out to yearly. I find this especially low given this conversion is also dovetailing into a promotion from junior to full level. I’m being asked if this figure is suitable for me; it’s clearly not, but what is the best way for me to communicate with them going forward? I’m inclined to just get on the phone with the recruiter to avoid a long email back-and-forth, but wondering if it’s in my best interest to have…

Took a second job to cover my bills while I started my own business…

My business is scratching by just enough to support my family and myself now. Like just barely. But I have had enough. I am going to put my notice in at the second full time job today. But why is it that I feel so guilty quitting a job I absolutely hate (it is literally like physical torture working this second job with the conditions) so I can be with my family and do something that I love? Why do they make you feel like a failure for grinding out success and your own path? Why is it so hard to be happy? I feel like making your own way is made as difficult as possible with overwhelming taxes, fees and associations just so you can work in the first place and not to mention retirement and cost of healthcare. WFT. But I am still quitting. They have had enough…
