Bosses bad at communication (rant)
I’m frustrated and the stress is eating at me. This is mostly a rant but any tips or related stories are appreciated. I’m out on workers comp from an injury due to them not wanting to follow safely precautions originally put in place bc someone else had gotten hurt, (yay profits over people /s). Yesterday I had a follow up with my dr who still has me cleared for only sedentary work. I reached out to two bosses at my work to let them know what my dr said. My original position was physical, on my feet all day most of the week, but there are seated positions in a different department. I told them I would be willing to work a different position as long as it’s seated per doctors orders. And so far they’ve just ignored my text. Not even a thumbs up to let me know it…
Micromanaging at its best
My boss told me today that I should not be on my phone cause I’m at the front desk and people might assume we don’t work hard. I also ate at my desk this lunch cause I wanted some alone time and didn’t feel like socializing. He gave a remark I should eat with the colleagues to promote team atmosphere. I said I’m free at lunch to do as I please and he responded that if I want some alone time I could go for a walk but me eating at my desk looks weird and is unhygienic. He said he won’t make a formal note of it this time (the lunch, he did wrote up the phone thing without proof). How should I handle this the best? Another reason I ate at my desk is cause I am only allowed to leave my desk for lunch break between 12.00-12.30.…
Apologies to Martin Niemöller [OC]
First they laid off at Twitter And I did not speak out Because I was not at Twitter Then they laid off at Meta And I did not speak out Because I was not at Meta Then they laid off Amazon unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not at Amazon Then they laid off at Microsoft, Google, Amazon again, Salesforce And I did not speak out Because I was not laid off And then there was no one left To lay off
I shared my new job on Linkedin, with a simple and direct text. My ex-boss sent me an email to say congrats, i'm happy with your new job. I thanked him and as a courtesy, responded that my work experience at his company helped me a lot in getting my new job. I forgot he's a boss… Then out of nowhere he shared a Linkedin post implicitly taunts me, with a lot of mansplaining, for not mentioning and thanking him (as if I owe my existence to him) in my new job post. He finishes his article as follows: Startups are like a 40-year-old uncles, they want attention and love. I could completely ignore him but something inside me wants to respond. I am looking for a sarcastic answer to share without starting a war.. EDIT: The best response is to ignore because yes it's not worth it, social media…
Has anyone had this experience?
I know this isn’t a legal advice thread but I’m curious if anyone has had a similar experience. I was fired from my job at a start up tech company last Wednesday. When I spoke with HR that same day they said they were working out the details on my severance and would get back to me. I was told my last day would be Friday. Today, a week later, I still don’t have any exit paperwork, apart from an email giving me half details- like estimates for what they’ll pay me but nothing to sign, no cobra details, no 401k or equity details, and no instructions for sending back my equipment etc. I also haven’t received my last paycheck which depending on how much they send (when they finally do) seems like it could be wage violations. This is definitely unusual in my experience, but I’m wondering if it’s…
How do you get paid your worth?
Not sure if this is the right sub to post per se, but how do you even get “properly paid” or “paid your worth” if all the jobs within the area are mostly paying under? Based on glassdoor's income range within the area, median range is $18/hr for my zip code. Yet all the job postings are $15/hr (my current wage) BUT ARE MOSTLY BELOW that pay. Then with the current economy, you should really be making above $25/hr to afford basic rent. I'm currently living with family or else I'd be homeless Job titles: admin, admin assistant, admin coordinator, accounts payable clerk, bookkeeper, etc Only a highschool graduate. But about 10+ years work experience (worked while I was in school within the field). Should I look into getting certified for anything to make my resume worth the wage I economically need? If yes, what should it even be?
To be honest I’ve just been completely swamped with school work. I really need a day to catch up. I will say I have bailed on work (with ample notice) a couple of times recently because I was put on the Rota to work New Year’s Day/Eve. But I’ve covered SO MANY shifts for my company, literally I cover 70-80% of shifts that no one else will cover. Yesterday I messaged my manager to tell her that a family emergency came up and I can’t work on Sunday. She messaged me back asking what the emergency is. I can’t really use any hospitalisation excuse because it’s still quite far in the future (4 days from now). What can I say? I understand that I’m not actually obliged to tell her anything but I have crippling anxiety and I know that this will make the work environment uncomfortable for me the…
