I don't know why Americans do it? What's the point in climbing? If you are lucky enough to get your degree for close to nothing then that's a blessing in disguise but if you got it and talked in close to 6 figures of debt then in my opinion that is similar the the cycle of abuse. Step 1: get brainwashed since you're in elementary school to get an education or you'd be a nobody. 2: graduate, busting your ass in the process to get stellar grades for to pure pressure (while in the process you're missing out on the best moments of your life when you're not responsible for as much stuff as you would as an adult) only for it to lead up to nothing because… 3: you're most likely going to the same exact college with the kids that didn't give a damn in school. And if…

You could almost equate it to employees becoming a little bit more like gig workers,” Stop treating workers like gig workers and see what happens!
Every work is equally valued.
We live in a society where the worth of the work is measured by the economic value it generates. X job gets higher pays than job Y because X is touch huh? We were working on a project in which we need to make a chassis of a bike from plywood. We are engineer and we don't do labour consuming jobs . Our jobs needs much more skills than a carpenter . These were the view of my teammates. So I asked them to cut wood and then ruined it . They were not able to cut a straight edge. We should do a certain jobs cause we enjoy it . It can't be compared with any other jobs based on salary. Its pure bullshit but society wants us to follow and believe in that bullshit. Woodworking requires way more patience and persistence than engineering . In the end i…
My job wasn’t paying me my correct rate
Hello all I'm here because my last job didn't pay me right and believe it was on purpose. Heres what led me to believe this. I left for personal time and came back 4 months later. When I came back I was surprised as to how much I made. it was significantly more than I had previously at a rate of 23$ per hour. I was supposed to be making this amount the whole time Is there a way to report them for this and get the money I'm owed. This was over a 2 year period and now I feel like I'm having mental issues that are making this harder than it should be. Thank you for reading
Throwaway account because I don’t want to harm chances of at least keeping my job long enough, because you know, rising costs of living, piling-up medical bills from in-office work and related illnesses, and all. I started a new job less than a year ago, matrix model, and in more recent months I’ve been seeing some red flags including but not limited to: – multiple spreadsheets/documents where we have to report in, in addition to our one-on-ones with supervisors, what work we’re trying to get through – a lot of turnover in the past several months I’ve been here – multiple supervisor changes because supervisors remark being overworked – one of the supervisors making comment about my being absent right after I got off bereavement leave for the passing and related affairs for one of my parents – occasional comments supervisors make about whether people are actually working while we’re…
Guild Like System – Getting It Going?
Honest Question. I live in a metro with about 2 million people and work as a software dev. I was talking to my coworker about unions, but as the conversation progressed we've got two different types of employers in the region. There are some who treat their IT staff (as well as all employees) very well. Raises are adequate and the work is reasonable. However, there are some who treat IT and all workers like garbage. And some who specifically treat IT like garbage. We were talking about getting a cross company union fired up. Negotiate better pay for all, and shut out bad employers until they can clean themselves up. We're not in Silicon Valley so 500k in annual compensation isn't going to happen here. Also thinking cross company since everyone kinda floats from company to company so being portable would be nice (benefits). How would you get something…
Great job, but I am miserable
3 jobs in my pro career, and they've all been good by American standards, especially the last two. Been in my new jobs for 3 months. Great pay, great benefits, good boss, low stress, and I HATE it. Just like I hated my last 2 jobs. I am so depressed every morning I have to get up and go in. It is hard for me to fight my urge to quit. Dislike being there so much that I don't do the work and then it piles until I really need to do it before boss notices. I fantasize about doing other things with my life like starting an affordable summer camp or writing a book. Pipe dreams. I have taken steps to become financially independent and retire early , but it won't be anytime soon. I contemplate adopting kids but hesitate because I know that will lock me in even…
The company I work for monitors their computers with a software that shows business and idle times. We don’t have enough work to stay busy a full 8 hours. I was told if I am just moving my mouse it would still log me as idle. I would need to be actively clicking and scrolling on the page. Does anyone have any hacks for this? I’ve been using the read aloud on webpages but not sure if this will work.
Just sat down to breakfast at McD's and overheard a woman getting interviewed (and immediately accepted) for a job here. The McD's manager said, and I quote (I scribbled notes on my napkin as she talked because the first 2 sentences caught my attention): “One thing though, and this is not on your paperwork. Do NOT post anything about your paycheck on social media, do not talk about how much you make with ANYone. And I mean ANYone. We had a girl get fired just last week 'cause she ran her mouth on Snapchat or WeChat or something, talking about how many hours she got, or didn't get, and upper management sent down word to let her go. I mean we couldn't SAY that's what it was about but she has a nose ring and we said it was about that, I think. Insubordination. Because she did leave it in…
This sub has turned me more Liberal.
I’ve been in this sub for a few months now and I feel like I better understand the bs from work life. i’m 19 now but want to avoid those places as best I can. Initially I was towards the middle with liking stuff on both sides but it seems only one side wants to fix the horrible issues with work itself. I worked one job that was bad but it seems there has been some worse bosses out there and I am so happy to never found one as bad. Thanks to everyone on the sub who has provided advice and motivation to fight this bs we face!
