I’m an apprentice in a small local mechanic shop. It’s just me, the Forman, and the owners who manage the customer side. Working with him is okay, we get along fine, he knows what he’s doing. However he has quite the temper. I have to walk on eggshells around him. Because of the season, it’s pretty slow, we only get around 2 jobs each per day. Most of the time he’s in the break room with his feet up on his phone. I don’t really care, I keep the shop tidy and have a few small projects to work on. If he sees me in the break room, he gets pissy, he’ll look at me through the window and make a fuss. But whatever I pretend to do a lot of work when it’s slow. Every once in a while, I’ll mess something up, forget to check the air pressure…

On-Call Pay During Weekends
I currently work for a company that requires on-call coverage for each of its field employees once every 5-6 weeks. I always clock an 8 hour day during my weekend coverage regardless of workload because I am beholden to the work regardless if there is any available. I haven’t had any issues with this until I worked over Christmas weekend. My boss called in the middle of last week asking how many calls I received on Christmas Day to which I replied none. I sat at my house, didn’t visit my family with my wife and kids, didn’t drink, and didn’t participate in any festivities due to the chance that I may receive a call. He claimed that that was not company policy and cut my hours down from 8 to 3 because he didn’t want to pay my double time rate. Seems to me like you should be paid…
