For the past couple months, my hours have been cut dramatically. I have lost 1/3 of my usual monthly pay. Because of this, I found work elsewhere and picked up a different part time job. I changed my availability (apparently a sin) at my current employer and they lost their shit. They had a meeting with me where they tried to intimidate me into keeping open availability by threatening to cut my hours further, bringing up that I'll loose my benefits (definitely a personal attack since I suffer from conditions that require frequent appointments), and trying to tell me that the employer comes first. I just kept telling them that they aren't giving me enough money so I'm going to where I can make more. That I've been asking them for a while to increase my hours and they haven't done that. I was told that isn't true. That I…

Historic MN Snowstorm
We have to let it fail tho, it won’t fail if we all just continue on. Sorry to say it but we’re going to have to all take a massive risk if you want change. Unwillingness or fear to take that risk just means you are content enough as is and don’t actually want change.
So basically my wife and I worked for a hotel chain and I have since left. Well she does 3rd shift front desk and usually sets up the breakfast area instead of doing coffee (She has a mold allergy and pretty sure the coffee machine has mold in it cause when she does coffee she gets a migraine). Well come to find out the girl (who she gets along with) who does breakfast complained that she was behind cause she had to do the coffee. So this is brought to my wife's attention and the GM tells her to just do the coffee then since the other stuff isn't in her job description. So she does just that last night (this morning) and when the other girl gets there and asks what happened my wife tells her she was told that there was a problem and to just do the…
We recently got an email about a new process to help keep our expenses tight, as the company is in a difficult spot. Fine, okay, sure, let's be careful with our expenditures. I get that. But there's a line in the email from the CFO that seems like he just put it in to make everyone feel better: “The new process is designed to empower everyone at XYZ Company to take full responsibility for spend…” What do words like empower and full responsibility mean to you? Well apparently they mean that a new committee will review and approve/deny/micromanage every single expenditure above a certain amount with, of course, an extra form to submit and the possibility of needing to provide extra information and show up to extra meetings with this new review panel. Oh and also, the email adds, the finance group is also reviewing approval levels for spend below…
Time Off Based Upon Years of Service
Forgive the rant, but it’s insane to me that time off is based upon seniority. Just passed on a pretty decent job offer because they wanted to start me with 5 days of PTO the first year, increasing to 10 days the second. It stays at 10 days until the 5 year mark, where it increases to 15 days. That’s just crazy to me. I know, first world problems. I’m thankful to have a good job and an offer. But with many decades of work experience under my belt, coupled with the fact that, in my field, the average tenure of an employee is under two years, such an accrual period is silly My friend flipped it around and I love his analogy. Ok, I have to accrue time off? Great. So. When I start work and you ask me to do something, I should answer “sorry, I can’t, I…
