This really is just a rant. My bosses, also the owners of the company, didn’t give me the decency of a face to face meeting so I had to resign via email which I really didn’t want to do. They then told me who I would start training but gave me no direction other than “teach her everything”. In the last 7 days, that “direction” was the only thing that was said to me. Now it’s Wednesday afternoon and they are sending me email after email about things they need me to do. There’s literally no one else in this company that can do my job. I’ve done everything I can to set whoever comes in next up for success but honestly, I’m struggling to make it until Friday. AITA if I just stop preparing stuff? At this point I really don’t care anymore, especially when they couldn’t make the…
The Art of Projecting.
I am starting a new job as a lead preschool teacher next week, in Minnesota. Today I went in for some paperwork (unpaid) and she said I will be paid at a lower rate my first week since I won't be in the classroom. She claimed to not know what that rate would be, however. There is a bunch of onboarding paperwork and the reading of the employee handbook that I am supposed to do before starting- unpaid. At all of my previous jobs, this was paid since it was done in person at the office. I also have to do a fingerprint background check before I can start, and I pay for that — this one I'm pretty sure is legal in MN for teachers, it's just frustrating. $45 My first aid and CPR have expired, so I also have to take those classes. When I asked about that,…
i’m at my breaking point
i’m 19 and started working at a grocery store about 6 months ago. i’ve been told that i’m a very hard worker and my manager even got me flowers and cheesecake for valentine’s day for how much i do, which of course i appreciate. but this job has me constantly burnt out and i feel stuck. recently i’ve been scheduled more, generally 5 days in a row, one day off, then repeat. i asked for 4 days a week a few months ago, which i got for maybe 3 weeks. i also now have to do some closing shifts, which i was able to negotiate leaving at 6:30 since biking home at night as a woman scares me. hopefully within the next few weeks/months i will have a car. but i think until then im just stuck.
And then I got fired a week later, lol
I had a job creating computer graphics, printing out files for clients, writing content. Immediate manager was a glory thief who took credit for a lot of the graphic work I turned out. I didn't say anything, but after the first few times of him getting complimented for MY work, I got crafty. I used Photoshop a lot, so I made two blacks in the palette and buried my signature. Boss came around after one of those review meetings where manager was again showered in praise, asked if everything was okay and I said no. No, it's not okay when Jim takes all credit for my work. Boss says, “He claims to have created this piece.” So I opened the file, changed one of the blacks to bright red and, lo! My name in lights! They found an excuse to let me go days later, but the joke's on Jim…
My job has a policy where if you call out you have to take a wellness survey, if you do take this survey and it deems you unfit to work you cannot work for the next 5 days, regardless of how you feel in that time frame. I now do not get to make any money from my job because I was sick since Monday. My job is Texas Roadhouse. This policy is insane.
That's the language used in a post for a position I'm considering applying for. Isn't this a red flag telling the applicants the employer basically doesn't care if applicants have lives, schedules, child and/or family care needs? I emailed requesting clarification. The answer was that program needs “might mean some evenings and or opportunities to work outside those hours.” No clear expectations in mind, just the expectation that anyone should be able to randomly adjust to schedule changes that could include any and all hours of the day or week, which they may later dictate because things “might” change on their end. Am I wrong to feel it's exploitative to hire people without having clear scheduling expectations? I'm repelled by how so many postings cavalierly throw in the expectation of an employee being totally flexible with their availability without any concrete reason why. I realize there are certain roles that…
