This may boil down to a rant, so take with a grain of salt if you don't care. For context, I am 24 years old, working in rural Michigan in a town of blue-collar factory workers and retirees. My job is retail auto parts sale and delivery, meaning when I am not at the counter, I am often on the road. The only vehicles we are provided for delivery are FWD hatchback Ford Focuses or Fiestas. I make 15$/hr, which isn't bad for the area, but not amazing pay when all my living conditions are still college town prices. Average workweek is 5 10-hour days, plus 5 hours every other weekend. Currently, we are getting hit with a winter storm. The news said 9-10 inches by the end of tomorrow, but the way things are going, it might be by the end of tonight. There are also 25mph winds. Company fired me. I’m not really upset because they were assholes and the new manager that came in made it pretty clear he wanted me out day 1. They’ve sent a email asking for the company property back which is a monitor and laptop. They said they’ll send a label but i should have saved the original boxes and if I didn’t I need to go buy boxes and padding. My question is, what happens if I A) Refuse to send it back? And/or B) refuse unless they pay for the box? They’ve already sent my final check so they can’t threaten that. I don’t really care about the laptop (it’s so bad I never used it) and the monitor is fairly cheap ($97) but frankly I also mounted the monitor and I’ve moved since I started at the company so I have no earthly idea where the stand went…

At my job I try to go after 8.5 hours – with waking up, commuting and the 30 Min break I am allready using around half the day (12 hours) for work – I am not going to invest a single second more. And people look at me as if I was crazy. Last month I had 10 hours of overtime – and a colleague was joking how little that was – he had 30. After going through the overtime list I found out that most people had like 20-30 every month – some had 50-60 and the record were 150 hours of overtime in a single month! If I cant do the job in 40 hours – that means you need less work or a second person – like hell I am going to work at 110% and make 30 hours of overtime each month just so that you…
