Im not sure if this is the correct sub but, I’m hoping someone can help. I’m also googling information to try and get an answer but, anyways… my question is: are employers required to give 8 hours off between shifts? I dont know why it’s in my head (and always has been since I started working) that employers are required to give employees 8 hours off in between shifts. I work in a LTC facility 215pm-1045pm and often pick up the night shift so I will be there until 7am. Until recently, our night supervisor was always okay with night shift employees on a double could leave at 6am when day shift arrived. Administration is looking to show their appreciation to us by sending an email “if you work night shift, you are not allowed to leave before 7am or it will be half an occurrence. Supervisor approval is not…

My GM got fired for having basic empathy
I just need to rant about this situation I work at a local restaurant and have been for the past year. In the year I’ve been working here we have gone through a LOT of managers. Two months ago we got a new general manager named Amy (fake name) and she’s been amazing, no doubt the best manager this restaurant has ever had. She’s gone above and beyond to clean the store up, make everything in the back more organized, and most of all actually takes care of her employees. She always put our well being above everything else. She really took the time to get to know everyone and she always made sure everyone was completely comfortable while working. We ALL loved her A few days ago she got fired despite all the good she’s done for this place. Why did she get fired?? There was an ice storm…
I’m a criminal defense investigator who primarily does state funded indigent cases. The state pays contractors $40/hr for investigative work. I accepted a job a few years ago at a new firm at the rate of $30/hr (the state pays $40/hr, and the company keeps $10). This made sense at the time; I got a regular paycheck, help with administrative functions, and I saved money on various software licenses and memberships. I was very clear with them when I took the job that $30/hr was the minimum amount I could accept, considering I can turn around and go back to freelancing for $40/hr. Friday my boss called me and broke the news that due to financial difficulties, they were going to have to cut my pay to $25/hr. I told them “no thanks, I’ll just go back out on my own”. My boss was taken aback and seemed completely unprepared…
Makes you wonder who's doing it? Weird.
Tips to fool a drug test?
It’s been only a few days but I was told today that the job I’ve already accepted might require a drug screening and I had pot on Saturday evening. It had been a solid couple months before that so no heavy use. I’m feeling stupid anxious and could use any help possible. All I had was 2 delta 9 gummies and a couple hits from a pen.
I had quite an experience today…
So… Last week, my Mom overheard a conversation between a woman and a convenience store clerk that went something like: “We've been given a grant by the state of Oregon, and we need to spend the money quickly or else we lose the funds.” Weird, but I've heard of things happening like this in Oregon before with various things. Most specifically a road upgrade project. Anyways, my Mom asked her what was up and, basically, the grant is to help underserved Oregonians in need of a living wage. I definitely fall into this category. So my Mom got the number for me and I called her as soon as she gave it to me, and I went through the steps and procedures to “qualify” which included making something called an iMatch through Oregon WorkSource. We had a pretty good conversation, and we decided to make it easy, we would meet…
So I’m probably getting fired tomorrow.
My direct supervisor texted me after my work hours to inform me that HR wants to speak to me before work tomorrow. This follows our acquisition by another company in the proceeding months. We have since cut our workforce from 7 to 2 at our location, they have paid me late 3 times, and cut my hours by 20%. Realistically I'm not losing a good job. But I'm autistic and a job is a hard thing to come by. 85% of adults with autism are unemployed and that has been a chronic issue for me. I've had probably 15 jobs in 10 years. So I guess I'm asking what I should do, where do I go from here?
A poem about this sub….
In the depths of the internet, a corner we'll find, Where voices against the grind of work, combined, A sub-Reddit they call it, antiwork, their cry, Against the drudgery of labor, they testify. A place where the dissatisfied come to vent, Against the monotony of the daily descent, Where 9 to 5 feels like a prison sentence, And work-life balance is an elusive remittance. They speak of the lack of purpose and meaning, Of the soul-sucking nature of office cleaning, Where cubicles feel like cages, and bosses like guards, And promotions, a carrot, just out of their cards. The antiwork movement is not just laziness, But a rebellion against capitalist craziness, Of a world where profits reign over people, And exhaustion and burnout, the inevitable sequel. They ask, what's the point of it all, Of sacrificing happiness, health, and recall, For a system that values production over living, And makes…
