is this legal? we’re in NY btw

So my mom works at a company that is busy during the winter and not so busy during the summer(they sell propane and heating supplies) so they have a lot of part time and seasonal employees during the busy season, my mom being one of them. There is another seasonal employee, let's call her Amy, who is using all her pto to take off most of March. Today my mom had a meeting with her boss, and the boss informed her that they will be telling Amy not to come back after her vacation, so that my mom can take on all of Amy's current job responsibilities and become a year round full time employee. Amy has not been informed of this yet. Is it legal for my mom's boss to discuss someone else's employment status with my mom? Also do you think my mom should warn Amy that she's…

Responsible for Coworkers’ Jobs

TL;DR: if I don't take a less desirable position, multiple coworkers will no longer be able to work here Unfortunately long background context: I work for a large after-school program, a fairly large one that, while I don't know the exact numbers, has hundreds of K-12 students enrolled at various locations across my town. For my position, directly leading a group of kids, there are two types of staff: normal hourly employees, paid for by the employer, and Americorp positions, paid for with Americorp grant money. My employer obviously prefers the Americorp positions, as they don't have to pay anything for those. I am one of the two hourly employees at my location — everyone else is Americorp. Apparently multiple coworkers have their Americorp contracts up in the middle of the semester, which is inconvenient for obvious reasons. They all wanted to finish out the school year, but cannot commit…

Delusional man brags about 13 consecutive 12 hour shifts.

So, today my friend made a Facebook story of the door to the factory they work at. They wrote “someone said get ready for 13 straight 12s”, to this I replied “Jesus Christ…” This man proceeds to say, “I mean it’s something they’ve done before and it’s something other companies do regularly.” Me-“Just because it happens doesn’t mean it’s right..” Him-“I mean I guess legally you could be like fuck you, but the moneys decent lol” What kind of insane world do we live in where “decent money” is worth literally HALF of your hours, 13 days in a row. Let it also be noted, this guy lives an hour from his job. America; the land of slavery disguised as capitalism.

What did my manager mean?

Some of you may remember this post I made a few months ago about working at hobby lobby and how horrible it was. Well my manager told me that my last day was on Saturday (very last minute btw). I asked if there was a specific reason why I wasn't being kept (I was seasonal and my assistant manager was a b**ch) and she said that payroll was “horrible”. Does anyone know what she meant?

Providing last 2 weeks to a job is so stressful. Upper management ices you out. They make you feel guilty for leaving, and not telling them your next company. Ready to go!

How come people like to brag about how many hrs they worked in one day?

When you're going on 50-60hrs a week you become less productive and a danger to yourself and others on the job and on the road.

Your doctors notes doesn’t matter!

How is it that the US allows employers to give you “points” or even fire you for attendance when you have a doctors note saying you literally shouldn’t be working? Not my issue but an issue I deal with a lot as a department manager within a company that does this.
