Imagine your compensation being completely stifled because your company won’t promote you to the next level. And the level of effort to reach the your salary range cap becomes increasingly more difficult to achieve (due to expectations to go above and beyond what you currently do, which happens to be a lot to begin with). Companies love exploiting and playing with employees livelihoods because of power dynamics. It’s disheartening when you put the majority of your daily life into a job, just to continually be fucked with by upper management. And for what? What’s it all for? Why mess with people who want to make money to live a decent life? I don’t get it.
Lot to unpack here…
Not that it necessarily will, but I do think that the powers that be are “afraid” of a wage price spiral, where workers start asking for more and more wages in a reverse bidding war. Even the chairman of the fed, Jerome Powell, has said so many times. But I never really bought that that just happens by itself. Workers always want higher wages. Wages go up when workers are in the drivers’ seat. Boomers have retired. Gen Z is too small to fill in the gap. Trump reduced immigration. There are now more jobs than workers. So now that we are in the driver’s seat, why should we just eat the cost of our student loans? should our jobs not provide a living wage that helps us cover the cost of education, especially in a laborer’s job market like this one?
