I have worked at a small, family owned restaurant in Central FL for 4 years. Yesterday I got written up for calling off. I am the only person who has ever been written up in the history of our restaurant. I called off because I was having a massive panic attack, and offered a doctor’s note. In the four years I’ve worked there, I’ve only called off a handful of times. Once because of hardcore eye infection that left me out for 10 days, once because my boyfriend’s mom unexpectedly passed way, and once for COVID. I’ve picked up shifts for everyone, even when I have a second job now. I’ve been okay with being short staffed because the family and staff members want to go to Disney. On some of those days I’ve been wrecked trying to bartend with a ton of tables at the same time and no…
Month: March 2023
I have evidence that the owner of a business charged his employees for materials which ended up being damaged during fabrication (a normal business risk). The damaged material cost the business a few thousand dollars, which was split between a few employees who worked in the fabrication process. These employees are undocumented (actually, the business helped forge documents, but I cannot prove this, even though it is known) and have no one to turn too without risking immigration issues… When it was all said and done, each person lost a little over an entire week's wages. This was done as punishment to the employees, to scare them into being… more careful, I guess. Anyhow, this is absolutely illegal, so I did what I felt was right, and reported this company to the Department of Labor. About a month ago, I received a letter confirming that the DoL received my complaint;…
And that’s when all the trouble begun
Like lawyer, doctor, accountant, financial analyst etc. The jobs that would pay more on average? I'm not sure how many of us here went for the dream over the money vs those that never went to college to study these boring fields but do you regret sacrificing the money for whatever else it is. Do you think if you could go back you would take the school loans to get the office job, the money that's kinda enough to support a family, the 401k or other retirement plan, the dental/health benefits and all that normally social acceptable stuff.
… that data driven decisions are key to success in business. The Data: Proves that companies who have adopted the four hour work week have experienced increased revenue, employee retention and productivity as a result. In addition, their employee's mental health and satisfaction skyrocketed. Key Facts: Capitalists consistently… 1) Make the decision to lay off thousands of workers and tout that this decision was data driven to disguise their greed and cruelty as a “Good business decision.” 2) Invest in ridiculous propaganda that falsely claims workers prefer pizza parties and ping pong to monetary compensation. 3) Take every opportunity to appear on every form of popular media and mock the 4-day work week and and slander the very people who created their wealth. Result: They are consciously turning down an opportunity to generate more wealth for themselves, while spending stupid amounts of time and energy on to paint workers as…
Why work is so exhausting.
A month and a half ago I started my first full time job, thinking that finally I won’t be grinding for final exams and essays for the rest of my life. I was so naive and wrong. The real grind just begun, and it has no stop until I’m too old for companies to milk value out of me. How do you guys cope with work? It’s not like school where I have summer/winter breaks to look forward to. The work just has no end. Every day I head home knowing that I’ll do the same thing again tomorrow and most likely for the rest of my life. I have no time to do stuffs. My commute is 1hr each way unless I rent near my company where the rent is outrageous. In the weekends when I have time I just don’t have the energy to leave my bed. I…
