Changing job to a better paid ended up badly for me

Just want to share my story because I can't share this elsewhere and maybe later I can look at this and think how much better things are. Half a year ago I changed jobs to a better paying one in IT which was all new for me. The one who hired me was a CEO and knew very well my area of expertise and interviewed me multiple times. I was not going to do coding. I was clear of my work experience and what parts are completely new things for me about this job. And all was good. Fast forward to this moment I'm being socially undermined by the boss to the rest of the team, told that I ask naïve questions, that my ideas are years too late to be good and generally being a trash can for the boss who apparently is a master of all the possible…

“Making our company more competitive….”

Had to laugh —- woke up to my wife today dropping a very hearty WTF (which is not in her nature). Last week she was required to attend a corporate zoom where executives took turns saying how their company is losing good people because they aren’t competitive enough. They cried about jobs going unfilled and “how hard it’s been”. They wanted to bring up the bottom and make their company on par with other similar institutions. They said no one would lose pay, that everyone would remain neutral or receive an immediate increase!!! Amazing!!! When I asked my wife why the “WTF” she said her annual salary increased by $200 total…..and that the limit for her merit based bonus decreased by $1000 ——- meaning total, she lost $800 in pay for the year. Oh, and the company in the email said they are looking hard at “getting people from home…

Entry level job requires references. WHY?!

I just need someone I can rant to. I have been job hunting for months after my business went under. With no education past highschool you can imagine it hasn't been easy landing something that has potential for growth. I finished an interview with HR and while disappointed with the pay they offered, I really needed something at this point. Besides that all seemed well until the very end where they asked to send over 3 references I definitely don't have. Besides the fact that references are probably the worst way to gauge someone's employability, I am a pretty introverted person and don't exactly make friends to ask this kind of thing. I have basically resorted to begging old clients to consider giving me a reference but it just feels dirty. All that for just barely min wage. Hopefully other prospects bear fruit soon but I'll be steaming about this…

Overworked / underpaid

On my 9th day working, including travel for a software firm, been waking up everyday at 6am to start my work day and have been ending my day at 10pm, sometimes 11pm. With only 30 mins of lunch, if im lucky and no breaks. I'm also getting paid salary (less than 65) and no OT. I am sleep deprived, hungry and my boss keeps food shaming me. Any advice? I don't know what to do and I'm about to walk out! Is this okay or normal?

My bosses don’t want to give me too much power

We have had a system that puts projects under each individuals designated number. Under previous managers I have done work under their number. However over the years I have moved up and received my own number. Now without warning they have hired a new middle manager and taken all of the jobs that were under my number and put them under the new guys. This does not make sense to me as I am the one who sold the projects and have done a majority of the work on them. They say it's not about “credit.” However, if it's not tied to my number to me it looks like the new guy has done a ton of work even though it's just being stolen from me in my eyes. I have brought this up to higher management, however, this isn't the first time this has happened and I'm tired of…

Was involuntarily committed a psychiatric hospital for self harm comment. Kept there for 5 days. What do I do?

On April 13th, my coworker had said something to my supervisor about a comment I had made while in the confines of our shared office. The comment was “I'm tired of being alive.” I have no psychiatric history. I was interviewed by a dork with a clipboard at my office. This man deemed me unsafe and I was taken in a police vehicle to a psychiatric hospital. I was asked more questions by a psychiatrist. My blood was taken. I was forced to take my clothes off. I was forced to wait 8 hours in the ER until I was taken to a “unit” where I would then spend the next 4 days of my life. I was mistreated by nurses against the patient bill of rights; not having my questions answered, not treated with dignity. I was then interviewed by a psychiatrist and a social worker the second day…

Work sells gym equipment

So my company had an indoor gym on site for 10+ years. Earlier this year they decided they could use the gym space for more important needs. So they tell the union employees that the machines are old and they need to give them away. In reality, the equipment might have been old but it was in good enough shape that they were able to resell it all. Now we are left with no gym area and there solution is online yoga classes instead.

Manager and Supervisor don’t follow procedures.

Rant: So, my manager and supervisor have been training me for about 3 and a half months now and I’m constantly in a state of second guessing myself because what they teach me they don’t adhere to themselves. I work in the contact lens department, here’s a list of rules they break: The patient needs an up to date sight test in order to qualify for contact lenses…uh, whatever let’s get them in now and do half of the appointment, but hey! You’re really gonna need that sight test. Absolutely grinds my gears because I stand there making the effort of explaining to a patient why they can’t have this appointment until the sight test and then my supervisor and manager shut me down and make me look like an idiot. Can’t issue lenses until they have an up to date contact lens check up…you know what, whatever, just make…

Nj Overtime Law Question

So, I have a question about whether or not I qualify for overtime. I work in Southern New Jersey at a Seaside Boardwalk Resort in the position of Inventory and Receiving. I am a seasonal employee, so I work around 8 months out of the year. I've held this job for several years now. I don't want to give away too much info in case this is seen by someone I work with, hence the throwaway account. I highly doubt this would happen, but better safe then sorry. When I first applied there, I was told my position “didn't qualify for overtime due to an exception” and originally I took this at face value. But after being expected to put in 60 to 70 hour work weeks, and finding out that we are some of the only employees who don't get overtime pay. I'm beginning to have serious doubts. Now,…
