Sigh. I just had a work event- a work “retreat.” It was mandatory. The day started with yoga to apparently center ourselves. I politely declined, as they said it was optional, and as someone with ADHD, yoga makes me uncomfortable. A woman I hadn't seen before approached me and asked why I didn't want to be “loose.” She grabbed my hand and began asking my name and age, then devolving into a story of how she was in her 60s and a breast cancer survivor. As people came upstairs, she grabbed my arm and pulled me away from people to keep talking. At this point she said “I am going to touch you” like she hadn't been already. Once she got me to a corner, she told me I need to learn to “go with the flow”, that I'm too young to be this closed off if she's in her…
Month: April 2023
I've been noticing this a bit in my area. I've worked quite a few jobs around my town over the past 8 years and have gained quite a few regulars that eventually find me at whatever new job I've taken on. When I worked at popular grocery store people complained that self checkout was taking away jobs, the line for it was to long, etc. When at the same time we'd have 4 or 5 cashiers working at once along with 2 more manning the self checkout ready to help (at least until Covid). So they had options. My next job everything was strictly self checkout with a single register for returns only. People complained about missing out on the human experience and that self checkout was again stealing jobs, long lines, etc. It was a small store, very crowded and fully staffed with 3 people on the floor, 2…
Today we honor all those who died while on the job and push to make workplaces safer
warned boss, now he’s scrambling
Okay so I work for a company that is traditionally for young adults/high school aged teens (a carwash) but everyone who works for the company is in their mid to late 20s or older but there's still a few who still have a “high school mentality” For the past few months there has been a co-worker, (let's call her Sally) who has been stirring the pot and drama between coworkers has become a regular. Sally also is always coming in 10-15 minutes late, and not in uniform. Once she arrived she spends an extra 15-20 minutes getting ready in the company bathroom. If any drama has occurred, Sally's name is somehow tied into it. (She started the drama directly or she twisted others words and said something to another coworker to cause them to be upset with another.) I have been involved myself twice because of her antics ( spreading…
I'm new to this subreddit and reddit in general but I can really start to understand the perspective here. I work for a decent company and I don't really have any complaints except sometimes my boss will lose it and start yelling at me about really inconsequential things or small screw-ups simply because he is stressed or in a foul mood. You also have to walk on eggshells around him a lot and it can make the job really awkward and uncomfortable. It's also demeaning. Many of the things he will yell about he could easily just tell me in a normal voice. I'm not a slacker at work either. One of my coworkers just entered the workforce and is a little surprised that this is apparently the norm. Is it though? Would any of you put up with it and is there anything I can do without getting my…
Heard Recording About Me
I’ve been in PR for 10 years and at my current agency for two years. Long story short: I’ve been working on a large account since August and have hit the ground running by getting it to a more organized place, overseeing a team of approx. 10 and supporting them daily (and basically hourly) – everything from a gut check on an email before it reaches the client to helping them navigate top-tier media opportunities to leading client-facing meetings. Recently I expressed to my manager on this chaotic account – the only person “above” me on this account in terms of hierarchy – that I’ve been feeling overburdened. I wake up early (6am) and log off late (7pm) most days for my 9-5 job, and am on emails 24/7, including weekends. I operate on constant anxiety and stress because of this account. All this to say, today I was part…
Still can’t believe this happened yesterday. I work remotely as a salaried Customer Success Manager and since we normally work from about 7:30-5, M-TH, we have half days on Friday. My boss shifted our daily stand up to 1 PM (start of weekend for me). Normally, these meetings aren’t bad and figured I could join for 10 minutes before my plans started at 2 PM. I was wrong. Was a half hour of her explaining how we needed to essentially cold-call our customers that same afternoon (this is not our job) as well as do about 4 hours of admin work. After that call was over, I decided disappointing my boss was definitely the better option than disappointing my girlfriend with plans she has had for weeks. About a half hour later she messages me to join another zoom meeting. I ignore it. She then has my coworker call me…
Possible mass layoffs incoming?
Was calling a bunch of temp agencies over the week to get my foot in the door somewhere and had 2 of them both tell me there on a “hiring freeze” and aren't currently taking any applicants. Got to talking with a family member about it and they mentioned something about the economy going to shit and usually places start doing that before the layoffs come.
Hello all, my name is Donnell Aldridge, known by patrons as RED, and I am the former manager/food prep guy at Patriot Sandwich Company. Myself and my coworker, Jacob Witherspoon, have been recently hit with hardship due to the sudden closure of the sandwich shop. WE ARE NO LONGER AFFILIATED WITH DAVID JORDAN / PATRIOT SANDWICH CO. AND NONE OF THESE WOULD-BE FUNDS WILL BE GIVEN TO HIM. After a personal revelation of great impact on me and potentially every employee that man has ever had we are left in a terrible bind. Between returned paychecks, unpaid wages, unpaid child support that was garnished from my checks over the entire 10+ months of employment, and finally the absence of every credit card tip on the POS system never being given to me, Jacob, and possibly every employee the store has ever had we've been duped to put it lightly. Thank…
Are they serious with this article? Lol It’s almost like the CEO of a company wrote this. “many employees have not experienced any form of hardship at work” “fighting mandates and encouragement alike” “new employees entered with their mandates and there has been scope creep” “The view that employers should treat employees with white glove service and provide the highest levels of empathy and flexibility is now an expectation for many,”
