The crux of this article is that wages for the bottom are to low compared to the cost of living and anyone who works full time should be able to have their basic needs met.

I guess we all work office jobs…

I hate people. I'm having a rough weekend, and I was googling for how I could manage menstrual pain while at work (housekeeping, a lot of walking/standing/crouching/bending) but every single article I find assumes you work in an office! I'm always running into this issue. Like, when I wanted a solution a while back to how I could maybe manage work a little better without taking a mental health day, but still all office job related articles. So, so, so many of us work physical jobs. And so, so many of us can't afford to miss a day. It's just so disheartening to be this invisible. I know a lot of office jobs suck, I see a lot of people on this sub complaining about them and looking for new ones with better company culture, work-life balance, pay, and especially WFH and hybrid options. It's great for you all that…

Looking for the same jobs in my 40s as I was in my teens. I’m done

I’m done with the system. Tl:dr: I did all the things. I’m still at the bottom. The not-so-dirty secret to society, which the younger generation is quickly learning earlier and earlier, is that where you start out is a massive determining factor of where you end up. As someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I was totally sold on the lie that ‘hard work will get you to where you want to be.’ Spoiler alert, it won’t. No amount of hard work, positive attitude or ‘success hacks’ will change that. I say this as someone who’s 42 years old, and browsing retail jobs as money’s becoming too tight. I’ve worked pretty consistently since age 11. I started delivering papers. Worked every job from call centres, (even cold-calling double glazing sales in the 90s), bar work, retails, sales, administration, data entry, photographer, hospitality work, teaching, lecturing, manufacturing, everything.…

My Entire Restarant Quit Today

My entire fast food restaurant quit today, management and staff. It is so frustrating to work in an environment where everything is set up for failure. Corporate wants us to fail because the worse we do, the less the managers and and assistant managers get paid. No hours for labor, no equipment and then fuss at us when it takes a few seconds too long at the drive thru. Here's what really got me, though. On our town's Facebook, someone reports the restaurnt is closed. People start commenting, “No one wants to work anymore.”. WTH? Why do people always blame the employees? I work 2 jobs, 80 hours a week! And I quit because of the way I was treated and it's because, “I don't want to work.”?! F**k that!

If you guys want “more money” and not actually “no work”, learn a trade. Any trade.

I would just like to mention that there isn't a single trade that doesn't currently have a huge worker shortage, with no end in sight. Plumber, electrician, HVAC, appliance repair, masonry, any sort of infrastructure work like water, roads, bridges, etc. all have huge worker shortages and great pay. Go learn how to do something and you can get a job that pays well and has benefits.

Teachers should be one of the highest paid jobs.

Teachers should be one of the highest paid jobs but they get paid so little because education is underfunded in the United States. Imagine spending your best years, energy and nerve to teach but at the end receive so awfully less, not to mention in many parts of the country, teachers live below the family living wage Is it really worth it to choose teaching as your career cuz it’s your dream job?

where’s my “hello, how are you?”

dunno if this kind of whining belongs on this sub, so sorry if not. i’ve been working in customer service my whole adult life and one thing that irks me more than anything, even customers who are snobby for no reason, are people who don’t even say “hi” or reply to my “how are you doing today?” before asking me a question/placing their order. it takes two seconds and really highlights that they just see me as a worker.

Haunted by a mistake from 8 years ago.

I made a mistake at my current job (engineering firm) back in 2016. It was a big mistake but it only affected me and I remedied it in 2 hours. This mistake made for one of the worst days of my life and for sure the worst work day of my life. I suffered the jokes of this mistake for 5 years as one of my co-workers, and even one of my team leaders wouldn’t let it go. Call me soft but every time the story comes up I want to disappear, it’s humiliating and I have nightmares about it to this day. Flash forward to early 2020 (pre covid) said employee leaves for another job but the team leader still makes sure every new person hears the “haha that guy sucks at his job” story. I spoke to the team leader and asked him to stop as it causes…

Pitch idea during an interview?

Last week I had an interview with a video production company. One of their questions included making a pitch for a story that would have broad state appeal. I thought a few moments and made one. In retrospect I thought I should have declined. They could make an informed decision about my ideas based on my reel instead of asking for a freebie. If you want ideas, hire me. Sure, it probably would have definitely ended the interview (no contract since), but integrity.
