Just yesterday I had my performance and appraisal review where I was chided for wanting to count the extra 1-2 hours i am made to put in daily as over time. I had to leave an hour early today because my mum needed some urgent medical aid and was being rushed to the hospital. I informed HR, and I was straight up told that it'll count as a half day? Like first, these guys refuse to give me a raise, pay me LESSER than the minimum wage, refuse to count the hours I am made to work extra as overtime, and then pull off this bullshit? I'm just 22, a devops engineer, at the beginning of my career. While I understand I'm bound to face assholes especially in the start, but what the fuck is this bullshit? Edit: typo (may -> pay)

Kesha – Antiwork Song (Fine Line)
Kesha has a new song that addresses the state of the world and her own exploitation in the music industry. https://open.spotify.com/album/3RBAnTbN7fcba7VRpQi14P?si=XROXn1nzRiObDAlj3J-Obw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A3RBAnTbN7fcba7VRpQi14P [Verse 1] There's a fine line I've been walkin' And trying to balance is exhaustin' This is where you fuckers pushed me Don't be surprised if shit gets ugly [Pre-Chorus] All the doctors and lawyers cut the tongue outta my mouth I've been hidin' my anger, but bitch, look at me now I'm at the top of the mountain with a gun to my head Am I bigger than Jesus or better off dead? [Chorus] There's a fine line between genius and crazy There's a fine line between broken and brеakin' Spent my whole life tryna changе what they're sayin' about me Sick of walkin' that fine line Fine line between sellin' out and bein' bought Fine line between famous and bein' forgot It's time I'm comin' down off…
They know we get more work done, in a shorter period of time when we WFH. They know we waste time in commute and at work. It's like can you possibly be less self-aware?
Are The Tech Layoffs Retaliation?
During the pandemic and shift to WFH workers had a great deal of leverage in that they were more easily able to get and accept job offers from competitors as they didn’t need to worry about relocation or commutes. Where I worked there was a good deal of discussion in early/mid ‘22 regarding increasing employee compensation for retention purposes – yet here we are not even a year later and now tens of thousands of jobs are being cut when a lot of these tech companies are still reporting record Profits and substantial growth despite the “economic crisis” that’s been used as the excuse for these layoffs. Is this really just the corporations reasserting their position over the employees by making arbitrary cuts? Is there anything that could be done aside from unionizing?
I’m tired of work politics
Today was the last day of one of my favorite colleagues. She worked with us for almost 2 years and we all liked her a lot, for her competence and how nice and calm she is even when she had to put out fires started by others. But her abilities weren't being recognised by the powers that be so she accepted a better offer. She focused solely on her job and not the politics that some people are playing to lick the boots of the Deputy Director and the Director. We had a farewell party for her where we all shared why she was going to be missed and at some point after giving her the gift we bought and taking out the drinks and food, the Director interrupted us because it's the Deputy Director's birthday. Another colleague walked in with at least 20 balloons and a card. She proceeded…
Overheard a job interview
I was at a gas station yesterday for lunch, and there was a job interview going on in the seats behind me. The lady being interviewed said she used to work at $17 an hour and would like at least that amount. My coworker said “$17 is not enough for a living.” Meanwhile I’m sitting here making $14 an hour
I make this post because some redditors did not believe me when I spoke of this regular practice in France, so here is their hit lists. And well, maybe it could inspire other countries. Today the General Confederation of Labor has claims the “energy sobriety operations” of 15 town halls in the Paris region to protest against the pension reform. They also recall that, in this region, more than 200 public sites (hospitals, schools, libraries…) have been exempted from paying their electricity consumption since the beginning of the year. Also, they made a speciality of cutting off the power of every site a member of the government visits, so much that Macron have to move with its mobile generators everywhere he goes. The CGT now threats to cut off the power of the French Football Coup this Saturday, the Cannes festival, Roland Garros, and, of course, the Olympic Games the…
Split this group into two subreddits
Am I the only one that thinks more than half these posts should really be in a subreddit called r/ShittyBosses or some such? Only some of the posts actually speak to the stated idea of this group, the rest are just legitimate sharing/complaining/advice seeking about objectively terrible employers.
I've had a terrible few days at the ol' job, so I need to rant a bit. I've been working at this spot for over a year. In that time, we've had massive turnover. I started the job with at least 5-6 trained employees above me, and now a year later, I'm the senior employee based on the fact that everyone else has quit. I've stayed loyal to the business and worked any shift they've needed, usually taking the absolute worst schedule of anyone else employed there. I've kept my professional composure, despite being disrespected more times than I can count. I've continued to show up and work despite being offered raises that never materialized. I'm the one guy that everyone knows they can count on, and people straight up say that they 'do not want to work on the days I'm not there' because everything falls apart when I'm…
