Month: April 2023
I am based in the UK, and I work for Starbucks. Back in February, my manager went to Milan and saw the workers in Starbucks there wearing white formal shirts. She was inspired by this and told my store that we have to start wearing white shirts from now on. Most of my co-workers followed this, but some didn't, but covered it up with the company fleece jacket. I didn't wear it, and continued wearing my normal clothes, which followed the company lookbook. She told my supervisors to remind me that we were to wear white shirts, but I never did because 1. I don't have any white shirts and 2. The lookbook hasn't changed about white now being the only colour we are allowed to wear. Fast forward to the present, she spoke to me in person on Tuesday, asking if I had noticed the other partners in white.…
I have been searching high and low for a new position for the last 6 months or so. I am currently a television director at a local TV station in Pittsburgh which is owned by a major news network. My position will be switching to automation in the next few months and despite reassurance from managers that the switch will not result in layoffs, I have my doubts since I have not seen anything in writing. Among many others, I recently applied for a new position with the same company as a Commercial Videographer and was excited to receive an email back within days about scheduling a phone interview with the corporate talent scout. I responded with my availability and they responded with a scheduled time for the interview. Moments after confirming the time of the interview they emailed me back saying that there was a scheduling conflict and that…

Five rounds of interviews no less
Can I get an Amen up in here for being fed up with employers that leave you hanging after they made you jump through soooo many hoops just to pull the offer last minute? After months of interviews (I applied back in January), case studies, presentations and in-person meetings (they flew me out) I get a call today from the hiring manager who's a buddy of mine. “The VP got cold feet and they won't be creating the job opening after all. It's sad because we already had a very good compensation package approved for you. Well maybe there will be another chance in three to six months, who knows…” Mama raised a courteous boy so I thanked them for the opportunity but after hanging up I am just exhausted. Of course I am at fault here for getting my hopes up after receiving glowing feedback from everyone I've talked…
I had a brief phone screening today from what I thought was a direct hire position. 1st red flag: Called me from out of state. 2nd red flag: Did not identify that they were a staffing agency right off. Their job posting also did not identify the position was contract or temp to hire. 3rd red flag: Found out the pay wasn't even close to posted hourly wage 4th red flag : Interviewer was wayyy too excited about my qualifications. There was so much background noise during her call, I could hear the guy next to her talking to I presume a potential hire. It was extremely unprofessional and distracting. I ended up declining going further. Aerotek is the company. If you see this name for a job listing, be aware. I'm sure the job was legit, but was curious why they had a PA office call me when they…
