Essentially a rant but what is the actual logical reasoning behind the minimum wage for say a 17 year old being different than the rate for a 23+ year old? I’m a student working part time right now and I don’t get why two people doing the exact same job at the same company are legally allowed to be paid a different minimum wage. It’s not like I’m doing less because I’m younger. In fact I feel like the younger employees actually work a bit harder as they seem to have more “energy”. It just feels really unjust
i’m 15. i work in a concessions stand and it’s my job to check the bathroom and clean it if it’s dirty. i checked the bathroom multiple times and it was clean, but i forgot to check it before i left and i guess someone went in there and made it disgusting. my boss took a picture and showed it and talked shit about me to my coworker who is also 15 and had absolutely nothing to do with it. he hasn’t talked to me about it yet. i think that him talking to her about it was really stupid and unprofessional. i’m stressed about about it and scared i’m going to get fired. it was just an honest mistake because i was stressed out about customers. i honestly want to quit because the concessions workers are expected to act like managers for $9/hr but i’m scared of confrontation, especially…
This line is on every single sticky note
Keeping this vague on purpose. I've been working at the same place for a couple years. I was planning on being at this job until I finish college. All until I got an incredible offer to vacation abroad and all I would have to pay for is plane tickets. Knowing that summer is the busiest time for the business and knowing that I wanted to take 2-3 weeks off during this time, I purposely finalized my trip as early as I could and let my boss know. He immediately shut it down and said “No vacations over summer, period.” I explained I knew summer was busy and that's why I wanted to give him (the manager) time to work on the schedule knowing I'd be gone. I explained further that this was an opportunity that was only going to come once in my life and that it was important to…
Minimum wage isn’t even enough
This is a vent and my first post so bare with me. I work at a private dinner as one of the chefs, I'm technically not a shift supervisor but I do act like one to help my co workers shifts go smoother as they are either on the older side or minors. That being said, anytime there is a fuck up, I take blame even if I know nothing about it because the staff really don't deserve to be degraded how the owners treat others when they are unhappy. (Yes I know, I'm not going to do anything manager related till I'm payed to be one after today) With a little context out the way, lets start. We have a very low employee retention for front of the house due to the owner's wife treated the servers like absolute garbage. So much so when we had a rush during…
I work in the beauty industry. Been busting my ass fur a tear now trying to make it. Get told by clients, others and boss about how talented I am. Rarely ever get complaints. I’m a no bs person and have no issues standing for what’s right. Anyway, boss is VERY gossipy. Found out today she told my coworker that she thinks another girl who wants to work here “seems like she has a strong drive and would hustle more than (myself) and (other apprentice).” I’m annoyed. Feels like we can’t ever win. Just when I think I’m in the good books and ive worked hard to prove myself for barely over minimum wage, I’m hit with this. It’s nonstop.
