I've met a lot of folks from all works of life and with all sorts of jobs and to a man they say they there is no skilled labor shortage. People are just burning out faster than they can be replaced. Across all sectors, across all jobs people have had enough. Unless you are taking about the most basic physical labor you can't just replace the body with another one. This isn't the 18th century.
You are supposed to expire, not retire.
US Social Security retirement age set at 65 in the year 1935 Average male life expectancy in 1935 was 60. (Male used because most workers were male. Female life expectancy was 64.)
Emotionally exhausted
These last few months have definitely exposed what shady shit goes down at my job. An office employee put in his notice because he hates how the company is being run and he doesn't get paid enough. A coworker that has been reported multiple times, treats everyone like garbage, has made people quit, and barely does her job, is getting promoted to manager come June. (Because there's no one else supposedly) According to people that work in other departments, if she is given the position there will be a mass walk out and several more of our long time employees will quit. Another coworker I work closely just found out she was quietly “promoted” with no pay raise, just more responsibilities and stress. Plus other managers are ignoring her messages about a trainee being absolutely useless/not doing anything related to the job. Shes most likely quitting because of that and…
I work at a fast food/coffee shop restaurant and we recently had a little “regime change” of management. The area manager has stayed the same, but our specific store manager has been replaced after the old one found another job (good for him as well, he's gonna be treated better there). This new asshole has been unlikeable since day 1. I won't get into the details but he does not speak to me like a human being, and gets pissy when he has to clean up the messes that HE makes and is overall a giant manchild asshat. He also chills and goofs off in the back with his brother while my coworker and I are left working the front while those dumbasses go shopping or just stand around doing nothing (we are situated in a plaza with other stores). Now, my coworker has informed me of her suspicion that…
For the last year I've been doing data entry for one of the free government phone programs. While it was great getting to work from home and not being on phones, that's where the 'great' ended for this job. We're paid $12 an hour. We have no control over our schedules whatsoever to the point that management has sent out emails to remind us the 'when you agreed to the job you agreed to work as business needs dictate'. Basically, you work what they give you and be grateful for the opportunity. This includes if you have kids, are going to school, have another job, etc. No set schedules. On top of that the schedule runs Sunday through Saturday and they don't release it until Friday night. There have been multiple times where I'm scheduled 8 to 10 days in a row across 2 schedules just because thats how they…
So they say it's easier to get a job when you have one, yet if you work full time, your time to apply let alone interview is super limited. Not to mention some employers aren't very accommodating when it comes to you availability to interview. I've learned to dodge ones like that. Yet on the flipside, if you're unemployed, you have all the time to apply and interview, yet some employers won't hire you BECAUSE you're unemployed. That said, I've been at the same company for 6 years and definitely need a better job. Last year, I was interviewing with many companies only to get rejected or even ghosted. This was even making it to the 2nd and 3rd round interviews. I eventually got burnt out from it. A lot of times I get burnt out from my job, which is business development for an IT company, which is basically…
It's my second week of unemployment now and i just gathered enough mental energy to start learning how to knit and sew again and worked out for the first time today after like 8 months. I'm looking for any suggestions or experiences as to what to do during this time (whenever i'm not job searching for three hours a day) to better my mental health that's been crushed again by my last job.
