So I applied for some work at a Pizza Hut for some extra cash in the summer. My main job is with tax prep and I am in the off season in my company. And I have also applied for year round tax remote openings too. My main company makes seasonal staff take 13 weeks off, but it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than everything else in the area and is remote. . Another for a remote tax firm. The remote tax firm was much more professional and treated me like an adult. The person on the phone seemed impressed with my 10 years in the field and work. I hopefully have a zoom meeting coming and it goes well as this is year round Now the big difference is how both companies handle their applications. Both I found on Indeed. The tax company was easy apply and followed up both via…

Use up my vacation days?
TLDR – they tell me to use my vacation days. I do, and then claim overtime to make up for the work not done. Keeping it vague because I work for a government agency. Long story with a lot of background. When I first started working here, things were fine. I got paid a decent wage for the amount of work and effort I put in, so no major complaints. Then Covid happened and it started going down hill. First, we were told that we were not allowed to work from home because other sections under the same wing had to go in. So to keep it equitable, everyone had to go in. Except that the other sections did rotating schedules with “remote work” while we had to come in every day. The only issue with that was that we literally ended up with no work to do that required…
Today I am proud of myself. I got my boss to agree to go from 5 days in office to 2 for me. I want to tell you guys what worked for me. I realized they had tasks they were dreading but that I could do in my sleep. I simply offered to lend a hand in my down time at home on some other Project Managers’ plate and I can have 3 days at home. I feel a bit of peace I haven’t in a good long while.
I have been working for this Fortune 500 company for close to 10 years. I have been promoted several times throughout the year. In 2022 I decided to relocate across the country thinking it would benefit me but once I arrived and realized the position was actually a downgrade and it kind of didn’t exist… So they turned my position into a travel’s person, where I worked from home remotely but traveled 90% of the time. Fast forward end of 2022, I told the company that I will be moving back to my home state and start looking for other opportunities. They immediately asked if I would be interested in taking my old position back since I believe my replacement at the time wasn’t that great.. so I said for the right money and relocation package, I will be interested. Offers were made verbally by the VP of the dept…
Job could’ve been paying me double
Work “promoted” me (no pay raise, so nothing more than a fancy new title) I've taken on a lot of new work and have kept almost all of my old work. They hired someone else for my old position which means… They literally had it in their budget to be paying me double, and at the very least, a raise. Work doesn't reward you for being a hard working, they just give you more work. Let me be a cautionary tale.
