F(25) I work for a nonprofit as a marketing, communications and office coordinator. I also do some I.T. work for the company. I was originally hired to do some marketing and video work but then they saw how well I did the work, and they promoted me to full-time. This was the biggest mistake of my life. I am sick of work. It’s literally killing me. I am at a breaking point. My doctor is giving me a pass for mental health because it’s an abusive misogynistic toxic job…. BUT the job market sucks, so what can I tell my job so there’s a possibility of me coming back in 6-12 mo? Or at least have a good reference if another job calls? Still pretty sure I’m not coming back but I want there to be the possibility of that in the future so I don’t panic about job hunting before I’m better. I don’t have to tell them my exact reason for leave, because it will be unpaid and I’ll get short term disability so I don’t need to show them any paperwork. Also, there is basically nonexistent HR, so I can’t rely on laws and rules to protect me when it comes to references, etc.…

No real reason other than, “we are going in a different direction with your department”. That's the only sentence, no elaboration from anybody. I was the only one who got let go in my dept. My only thing I can think of is that they did hire a new guy for the dept. and didn't tell me that it was actually my replacement, which is why they just kept it at “going a different direction” and offered me severance pay for the month. The severance seems like they want a good end to the relationship, rather if they wanted to fire me for a malicious reason like they thought I was stealing or something like that. Thoughts? Hello all! Hoping to get some guidance here. My boyfriend works at a small family owned business and deals with oodles of bullshit from them that corporations wouldn't be able to get away with. One example is his place of work has two locations. They each generate the same amount of revenue and both do the same things. The people who work at the other location are a whole clique and, if the leader of the clique quits, the whole staff will walk. Due to that, the other location gets EVERYTHING. They were paid 55 hours throughout the whole winter while my boyfriend and his coworkers were struggling to hit 30 hours.
