Come on, CEO’s – no one wants to waste their life commuting or sharing a nasty ass bathroom. We live in a time of modern technology with computers and phones and high speed internet. Just ridiculous how these entitled CEO’s kick and scream like little brats about getting what they want. Get with the times, CEO’s. Use common sense. People are willing to work hard and be productive without all the unnecessary oppressiveness.
Break Time is not Production down-time!
If my supervisor calls for a 15min break, and we all shut the machines off at exactly 1:00am (for example), and it takes me 3 minutes to get to the cafeteria, and thinking ahead, it takes me probably 4 minutes to get back to my machine to turn it back on and put my PPE back on, does that mean, 7 minutes of my 15min break is removed because they expect us to be back up and running machines at exactly 1:15am? I have been taking my ENTIRE 15 minutes of my break within the cafeteria walls, and when 15 minutes is up, I leave the cafeteria. And I get told when I come back that I took a 22min break according to the downtime. To clarify, my two 15 min breaks and my 30 min lunch are paid. I work 12hr shifts in manufacturing. It pisses me off that…
Are my managers being shady to me?
Hi world sorry this is long. A few months ago in the beginning of March I started a new job at a winery as basically a hostess but they call it a receptionist. Anyway, I just sit at the front desk and check people in and sell wine/merch to go. On my first day I noticed a tip jar on my desk (not visible to customers) but didn’t really think anything of it since it was my first day and I was learning the ropes. There are two managers at the winery and only a few employees. Later that week, maybe my second or third day, one of my managers (Amy) and a coworker came up to me and told me to put out my tip jar and I will quote “to make that money girl.” So I did and some days I didn’t make anything but others I would…
As if capitalism couldn't screw the worker over even more, I now have no transportation to get to and from my factory job and Uber is gonna start price gouging like they always do when the busses aren't able to run. The drivers themselves are victims of the capitalist government, making them work in unsafe conditions with little protection. I hate my job, making under 20 an hour and I can't afford life anymore, and I'm sure it's much worse for other people working even worse jobs (especially the part timers and the people who are in school). Remember, capitalism is always set up to screw the workers and the people and the government (all levels) profit off of it so they love it too, just like the corporations.
Happy International Workers’ Day!
“Work” in Spanish comes from a Latin word for “torture”
Currently in a crap ton of pain and going on barely two hours of sleep. I wanted to call out, but my mom said to “just power through it and take some meds”. God forbid if I was a fire fighter or police officer, my current condition would pose an issue. Imagine all those “they were just having a bad day” stories, where the person either got hurt or got someone else hurt, could’ve been prevented if that person just called out. If you’re physically or mentally in pain, call out. There is nothing wrong when it comes to keeping yourself and those around you safe. Powering through will only cause burn out and make you detest your work.
He took the liberty of calling me on my personal cell to ask me where I’m at cause I was offline on Skype. May Day has been a national holiday since forever. After explaining to him that today is a national holiday, he says “oh, so that’s why I can’t get a hold of anyone” You mean I wasn’t the only one you called?!
Quit my shitty Job of Ten Years
I finally quit my shitty job at a non for profit where I and just one other case manager were responsible for 400 clients and the only other employees were outsourced workers from the Philippines. 52k a year and no benefits. The only benefit I had was Fridays off. And they tried to take that away too (unpaid bc they claim that we are salaried exempt tho legally we don’t make enough to be considered exempt in NYC) I’m sad to have to end my ten year career there in this way and they have def been trying to provoke me to quit so they wouldn’t have to pay unemployment and I let them win. But oh well. In a few months, I’ll be in a better spot.
