Just venting here: On January 26, 2023 I was fired for the first time in my nearly 15 year career. To say it came as a shock would be an understatement. I recognized the workplace was toxic. Management was toxic, and the place generally sucked… but I did my job and never had any disciplinary issues. The security company that I applied for gave me a link to a HireVue interview through an AI text massage. So I never got a chance to talk to the hiring manager. I didn't want to do it. but my father said we were desperate and needed money so I did the interview. I'm already anxious when it comes to interviewing so my anxiety was through the fucking roof. The questions were too broad and hard to answer because I'd never been in the scenarios that they were giving me. I tried my best anyway. I didn't hear back from them. I had to go to their website and sign to find out that I was not selected for the role. They didn't have the balls to tell me themselves. I work with a vulnerable population, many (not all) of the individuals serviced at my work have physical, mental, or psychological disabilities. A few months ago I witnessed another adult threaten a vulnerable person. The individual was struggling to walk somewhere. The staff member refused their reasonable accommodation (mobility based) and threatened to drag the person to their destination. I was asked by the administration to write a statement which I did. Since this incident, this individual has alternated harassing me and ignoring me. She harasses me when we are alone, and when we are working with our vulnerable population she outright ignores me. If I ask for help she will turn around and leave the room. She is also going to my colleagues and airing her grievances to people who are unaware of the situation. My administration has taken no action positive or negative to resolve the issue. Because…

I've been struggling at work for the last few months. I think the company is about to fire me. I have proof to show that my manager was picking on me (2 documented instances in informal convo with said manager and a coworker separately). Also there was a point my manager and upper management called me in for a meeting where I was told I was incompetent in my work and unprofessional (because of a typo!). Manager has recently had an issue with typos in my work (despite me having implemented all her tips and tricks and played around with settings). I offered to run my work through a manual spell check, or some other software since my current system isn't working, she said no for security reasons. Graduated from a three-year advanced programming diploma. Programming was all I ever wanted to do since I was eight years old. I think the quality of work reflects my passion. Right out of school, got a sweet job at Google Maps. But it wasn't good for me mentally. Every Friday when I got off work, I'd take the bus with the worst schedule down to Finch Station in Toronto, down to Dundas, wait in the Greyhound for up to two hours, and take the bus for another two hours back to London just to be with my girlfriend and tight group of friends. Having a hard time finding a job. Just a rant On paper I’m worthless. I’ve rarely stayed at a job for more than a year. I only have a high school diploma. I do have a cdl but no experience. My last two jobs I left because they were screwing me over. One due to managers incompetence and the other due to a personal problem with me and safety issues. Before that I left because I just needed a job so I could move back home. But I can’t put any of that on a resume so it just looks like I’m job hopping and no one is willing to even interview me. I'm so sick and tired of this shit. Why work at all at this point when something simple like a house is so far out of reach without being at the mercy of banks for 30-40 years. If you take their loan, you're just one accident away from being homeless anyway. Seriously considering playing up my depression at my doctor and going on indefinite welfare. Luckily this is rather easy where i live. The end result would be the same. Basic apartment, food, car, etc, but the state pays for it. Might as well accelerate the downfall of this gigantic late stage capitalism shit show, because nothing is going to change anyway.
