I work for a corporation in IT. We had a guy we'll call Milo working for about 5 years as a Linux Engineer. He had a certification from a few years ago that was three Linux versions behind what we are using. At this company, an engineer title makes significantly more money than the rest of us “advisors” or “seniors”. Anyway, I've worked here almost two years on the Linux team. Interacting with this guy about work was difficult. He couldn't stay on work-related subjects. Most answers were how he doesn't know something, then has a story that goes with why or how he doesn't know. Or it was stories about the good old days of floppy drives and DOS, then he would talk about going to Jamaica a few times a year for vacation. Here are some examples of incidents over the last year or so: * He made…
Month: June 2023
For context, I work a rotating swing shift. Currently I am on day 6 of 7 midnights and we need coverage Thursday/Friday due to vacation scheduled by another coworker. There are 5 of us total. We do not have an alternate to cover. One guy is on his five days off, while the other 3 are working their shifts. If someone takes off, that means someone is either coming in on an off-day, which are rare with swing shift. (7D,2O,5A,5O,7N,2O…repeat. Wkdays are 8hr and weekends are 12s) OR someone is working a 16hr shift. Now, for me, if I work the days needing coverage, I will get a double-time day and will have collectively worked 140hrs straight. The only real saving grace is that I have training classes three days next week that I have to leave work for and will be able to go home immediately after BUT still…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b_kMiE6WEM lets say we have an abused, underpaid employee at a big chain like walmart or target. Whats stopping him from playing a prank, going to a customer and saying something incredibly racist or homophobic on camera “sorry you gonna have to leave the store, you are making people uncomfortable”. He gets fired. The people sue the corporation for 1 million dollars and ruin them. how are corporations not afraid that their own abused employees wont get revenge this way and ruin them?
So I am 10 days in from completely stopping my Sertraline. I tapered extremely slowly (according to my GP). I was on 50mg for 4 years. I spent 4 weeks taking 25mg every day, then 4 weeks taking 25mg every other day and then as of Monday the 29th of May I haven't taken anything. I am having awful vertigo, which just seems to be getting worse and no matter how much I sleep I'm absolutely exhausted. Does anyone have any tips on how to ease these symptoms? Or do I just need to grin and bear it. I can't afford to take time off work as I don't get sick pay, hence me looking for tips.
I work at a fairly small food service location. Theres one particular coworker who the vast majority of me and my other coworkers are just… over. Long story short they are a pathological liar who specializes in playing the victim and shirking all responsibility. Recently, they got hurt somehow outside of work and didn’t come in for a few days. We had heard a few different stories, but finally found out that they had an open wound that got pretty seriously infected. They came back for their first shift yesterday. Today while working, I noticed how infected the injury really is. A while after their shift ended, a coworker came up and pointed out to me that they were hanging out in the back and rifling through the medical supply bag. I went to the back and they were sat on the floor right beside our food freezer AND all…
Story from way back
About 5 years ago I was working for a “facilities operations” company. In my case that meant I was a garage attendant. Easiest job I've ever had, until the new senior manager came on board. I had been hearing stories the whole week leading up to him about how he was there to make heads roll and he was a ruthless go getter. On the day I met him, it was raining heavily and a few of the (underground) stairwells began to flood. Myself and two other extra guys arrived to help take care of it. When we got there the new senior manager was there. He told us all to go to the supply closets and grab a squeegee and start clearing off the stairs. When we got to the closet there were only 2 squeegees. The other two guys grabbed one and I (pretty familiar with this garage)…
Weird new “policy”
So I'm supposed to start 1st of July and they are already sending me emails to invite me to some party to “get to know the team members”. I said no last week, but now they have another one and are asking me again. How do I make them understand I do this for money and I don't need more friends?
