I’ve been with my current job for just over 3.5 years, and in January I was denied a promotion, at the exact same time we were told to come back into the office. Livid, I started rage applying to a plethora of jobs, and heard back from a few. I received a message from a small agency for an account management position, and leapt at the opportunity to interview with them. Here’s how that went: – they schedule me for a phone interview without checking with me if I was available for that time. I reluctantly accepted and took the interview, pushing back a meeting at work – I was scheduled to go on vacation at the end of January/beginning of February, and told them I’d be happy to do a follow up call when I got back. They scheduled me AGAIN without notice to COME INTO THEIR OFFICE the…

Nobody is quitting over money.
TLDR at the bottom. This is a new account because I don’t want this story associated with my “real” account. Many years ago, I started a new job at a very well-known, very well-respected organization. They underpay their employees because “you get the prestige of the name.” Most of us who have worked there realize that their reputation increases exponentially the further away you are from their main office. About a week after I started working there, management handed out surveys on job satisfaction. I dutifully filled mine out and didn’t have any complaints. Of course, it was my first job out of school, so I was happy to be working. A couple of months later, management set up a meeting to review the results (they actually had a lot of meetings because this place had 10s of thousands of employees and ran 24 hours/day.) At the meeting I attended,…
I’m so sick of managers changing or lying about schedules. It’s happened in every job I’ve had. I’ve just started a new job and saw that the manager changed my shift without asking or telling me. When I questioned her, first it was “the schedule hasn’t changed” then it was “I can assure you it hasn’t changed because all changes are written in pen after printing and your shift is printed” Then when I told her I had a photo of the old schedule with my original shift it became “I would have asked you earlier” and also “You can not take a photo of the schedule, it isn’t something we do.” How can we work for people who lie instinctively to avoid any responsibility?
Why are you paying someone $2 an hour?

Boss lied and gaslit, again
Another notch on his belt I guess. In our last performance review he brought up the potential for some management training. Basically training to slot you in a management position in the future when positions open up. Said I could be a good fit, “you’re smart” and all that jazz. I said I’d definitely be interested and he said he’d send some emails and go from there. This was about a month ago. I finally brought it up and asked where we at with that. He proceeded to act all confused and said I could always apply for a position if I was interested (heavily insinuated that’d be stupid cause I don’t have the experience) and couldn’t recall any of our previous conversation. It’s the fact that he’s the one who brought it up that really frustrates me. I wasn’t chomping at the bit aggressively looking for a promotion, he…

Am I being squeezed or pushed out?
I have worked in this position for almost two years. My employment is regulated by the Canadian Labour Code, not provincial legislation. Since I have been here for over 12 months, I believe this entitles me to some protection from arbitrary dismissal, at least more so than in provincially regulated workplaces, but maybe I am mistaken. A new guy was hired in my department maybe three months ago. Previously it was mostly me and my manager, but the owners kept firing my managers, so it was mostly me. Management seems infatuated with this new guy. He’s highly sociable, agrees with everything, and is always eager for more; it’s like he is the Golden Boy for everyone. He’s the kind of person that seems to thrive in BS like those awful pizza parties companies are constantly doing for workers (he loves to suggest stuff like that). At a meeting today with…
My company somehow has a mindset where working OT everyday is normal behaviour. Now I'm not against helping a sudden rush here and there but every single time (every two months for a month long) a bunch of big client's work comes in, we all panic, and are expected to contribute loads of overtime. None of my coworkers say anything and just do the overtime. They will work until 10pm at night everyday to get all the work done on time. Because of this, they won't hire anyone since hey, the work is getting done and it's cheaper to pay the time and a half than have a new employee. So now it's that time of month again where we're in panic to get work done on time. Boss had a meeting with us, saying that we should do as much overtime as possible to help get the work done.…
