I have health conditions and due to this I prefer to work remotely. This job is remote as long as I am meeting quota minimum. So that’s what I’ve been doing. Even if that means working after I clock out (over time is not allowed). So most days I work after I clock out to make sure I get the minimum done. I’ve been here 6 months. There was a couple times I didn’t meet the minimum and was warned that I’ll get moved back to the office, which is a nightmare to even think about with my condition. I tried explaining that I work after I clock out but that was dismissed like I never said it. So I’m just over here thinking I am inadequate. Everyone else has been working here over 5+ years and I just suck and don’t seem to be improving. The work is overwhelming.…
Month: July 2023
Some background. I moved to Sweden almost 2 years ago to do an internship for my bachelors degree at this lab. I had a great time, graduated, and they offered me a job. I've been working for almost a year on temporary contracts. My work has the rule that after 1 year of temporary work you need to get a permanent contract or be laid off. For months my boss and I have been talking about keeping me on because I have basically taken on all the organizational tasks the 2 other permanent staff wouldn't get to on top of my own experiments and being supervisor to three bachelor students. It was always a lot but I learned a lot, my hours are flexible and I enjoyed my colleagues (only the pay isn't much, but i guess that is working in academia for you). Anyway, I have been told for…
Sidenote: not from the US. I am currently in the process of looking for a new job. Currently I have 4 years of experience in my field, but ‘only’ with one company. I am currently a level II, but am looking for a senior function. At my current job, I already do senior tasks, but of course without the pay and title. Most job adds request 2-3 years of experience for the senior function. So I talked to 3 companies already. 1 said I am not experienced enough for the senior position (even though I have double the experience compared to what they request). Whatever, their loss. The second company is not clear on the level. I applied for the senior function, however, the recruiter cannot confirm that the company and I are on the same level of expectations. Now the third has offered me a job. I applied to…

First internship experience
Hi everyone, I’m a new college grad interning for the summer. I’m really struggling with some things that have happened with my boss and I’m looking for guidance. I’ve been interning for this team for almost 6 months. From the beginning of my internship, my boss told me that “if things aligned” he would extend an offer and that he’s really interested in growing his team at the entry level. Right around when I started my internship I also got accepted to grad school with the option to go part time or full time. From the beginning, I gave him the deadline I was given to make a part time vs full time school decision, and asked him if it’d be possible to make a decision about my post internship decision then (extend an offer vs not). He happily agreed. I continued to remind him about this deadline every few…

I’m 42, and in the last 10 years or so, I haven’t held a job for longer than a year and a half. Some jobs I lost (brewery worker, lab technician, quality inspector), some I had to leave (lab technician again, teacher). It’s great trying to sugarcoat that your mental health isn’t great and it bleeds over into work. I’m so sick of having to start over every few years. And with my physical health getting just as bad as my mental health, I can’t afford to temp. No insurance, no sick time, no thank you. But now it looks like I’m going to lose this job too. I was put on a PIP a couple months ago and we’re coming up on the end of it. Despite my best efforts, it’s not going well. So I’ll probably be out on my ass by Labor Day, if not sooner. I’m…
