Just had an interview and the 5th question they asked me “What are your (educator) obligations to your employer?” I told them about as an educator I'm there to get the job done to the best of my ability. Then went home and googled what I should have said and NOTHING came up only obligations employers have to employees.
Month: July 2023
I use to go into the office one day a week but now my boss has asked me to come in 3 days a week. I’m not sure why because I get all the work done within a day. My boss doesn’t even come in when I’m in, he just comes in once a week and hates coming into the office himself. The office is very stressful because it is too small, some days I don’t have a place to sit and the rest of the time it’s just so crowded, everyone bumps into each other, you can’t have a conversation without the whole room knowing. I’m super self conscious because the company I work for is very small, I’m the only employee but we’ve merged with another company and they are much bigger (people wise) and busier. Meaning I’ll have hours during the day where I don’t have anything…
Thoughts? Flaky?
Sent a follow up message to the hiring manager about an application I submitted. They ask if I can complete the online assessment test, which was already completed. Puzzled I asked for the test to be resent. Didn't hear back till 13days later. Hiring manager replies on the weekend though email wanting a zoom call the same day or Monday (who checks their email on the weekends?). It was unseen so I asked for rescheduling in the week. 3 days were given: choosing day 2, I await for the zoom link till that day… dressed and prepped to be told scheduling error, so sorry! Can I do day 3 one minute before the zoom call. Is this normal?
I’m asking because over the last year the owner, in agreement with the manger at the business I work for, took away the chair we had at the front desk. Basically the job requires us to check people in and when it’s slow, go and do different tasks on our to-do list. It’s nice to be able to sit in between taste when we’re checking people in the building. There’s locations for this business in both Portland, OR and Bend, OR. Recently the Portland employees found out that legally they have to have chairs provided for everyone. When we heard that news in Bend, we found the hidden chair and got it out. Shortly after, the manager came in and took the chair away telling us the law is only for Portland and not Bend. Here’s the law: https://www.portland.gov/code/8/48/030#:~:text=Every%20employer%20in%20any%20manufacturing,permit%20them%20to%20use%20such Basically since that has happened I’ve been wondering about how to…
I mean logically the people that are starting a job probably don't have a lot of money, especially if they're taking public transportation. People get a job because they don't have money. If I don't have money I can't use public transportation to get to work, I can't get to work to make money for public transportation. It's like a catch 22 that too many employers seem to overlook or don't care about. Why not help people in need with a front on their check or something? Give people enough money to take the bus there and back and deduct it from their first check? It just seems redundant. You need money to get on the bus, you can't get money if you're not working, you can't get to work if you have no bus fare, you don't have bus fare if you're not working.
Boss cut my Hours
Received a phone call today from my boss who’s been on vacation for a month that he is cutting three peoples hrs and I made the list. I asked for a explanation as our job requires us to work weekends and their cutting working weekends. Asked if it was related to that. Boss said don’t worry about it just know your only will be working 2-3x a week. Each shift is only 4 hrs. Not sure what I did or if this is his way of pushing me out the door.
Maybe I did this to myself, I'm not sure. I have been working in this Clinic for over a Year and a half now as a Certified Medical Assistant. Within the first few months I expressed to my office manager that I felt I deserved to be making more money and wanted to take steps to show them how I was worth more money. I have been busting my ass since then trying to accomplish all of the tasks they assign me and my peers and would say I've excelled in a lot of the things that are asked of us to do in our list of everyday tasks (which is already quite a lot of things they expect from us.) I've also gone out of my way to create documentation for the office that ranges from Patient Paperwork, Supply Lists and Paperwork/Documentation to help train new Medical Assistants. While…
Hello Everyone! I apologize for any formatting issues (mobile) and this is my secondary account, just in case. I hate my job. I’m in property management and my manager and I were chosen to take on a new property along with our current property. It’s been hectic ever since we were chosen. Doing twice the work, same pay, and my manager is constantly leaving early or coming in late – he’s been doing this for a while even before we were given our new property. The new property is still under construction so that’s not been fun to deal with. My manager and maintenance staff have also been having issues the last few months and there’s been a lot of yelling in the office between them, though it has stopped recently because the maintenance supervisor is transferring. I also feel like I don’t have any work life balance and I…
“Oh but it will give you job experience”
Back when i was in High School, which i graduated 2021, we were forced to do some 180 hours of volunteer work or so in order to graduate. Their excuse for forcing us to was “oh, it will give you job experience to help you get a job”. To date, NONE of my volunteering experience at various places including local government related have gotten me a job. In fact, the people who hire ignore such experience even when it’s in their field to an extent. I volunteered in the concession stand in my high school for experience, which counts as a form of food service since i was often directly handling food, yet no such jobs will hire me. I volunteered for a local government agency (Smart Columbus), yet nobody will hire me in that field. The whole fucking thing is a scam meant to just waste our time. Sure…
