I live in Arizona. As my understanding goes paid sick leave here is a right to employees of a company that makes at least $500k a year. I used my paid sick leave early July. When I returned I was met with disciplinary action. Since PSL is a right employers are prohibited from retaliating against those who choose to use it. I was going to call their bluff to terminate me soon for using more PSL again but 7/23 my supervisor for the day swapped a $50 bill with a $5 bill in my till and it set me off. Had to report it asap. Two of my managers are now going to be under investigation. Was a great place to work. Now unhappy but will stay as long as I can because poverty. Will update. Contingency lawyers are likely a no go unfortunately. I know the rule of don't…
Month: July 2023
My manager really pissed me off today and i was already thinking about quitting. But i didnt wanna put in my 2 weeks and then see my manager again cause he always seems to make me feel bad. Well i quit and he wont know until he wakes up tomorrow to go open the store. I blocked his number and the dm's number. I sent an email with my attached resignation and i left my key at the store. I feel kinda bad cause he really sucks at being manager. He's just not the smartest guy and he's had some brain trauma which affects his memory. None of that is his fault and i think thats why i feel bad. But he really made me feel like he was taking my efforts for granted as he asked me to “be more productive” today while he sat on his phone all…
Thinking caps on folks
So I need a good excuse to take to my boss so that he will put me onto a 4 day week off instead of 5. Any and all suggestions welcomed because I don't have a clue.
I wish I was joking Don’t be like me If any place gives infrequent $0.10 raises or similar… Don’t even apply
Severance Agreement
I was laid off one month ago and was promised a severance payment upon my termination. I was let go for financial reasons, despite the company proudly stating they had another instance of record breaking profits this quarter. I worked for the company for 2.5 years and regularly worked 12-14 hour days, despite being ineligible for overtime(salaried). The severance payment was 1 month's pay, which would go a long way as this was completely out of the blue. The company sent me the official severance agreement where all I needed to do was sign within 21 days to receive the severance payment. I reviewed the agreement and signed it just 3 days upon reception, then put the agreement at the back of my mind as it would take time to receive the severance pay. I didnt need to think too long about it given there were no negative ramifications for…
Travel for work
First time poster, new to a salary based job rather than hourly wage with penalties etc. I travel a lot for work and manage other employees on a national level. I have 2 questions: 1. What can I claim as a reasonable travel work expense? Both when flying and driving. 2. Is it reasonable for the company to not reimburse my time in any form if I am working 40+ hour weeks Monday-Friday and then on the weekends I do additional work at conferences/meetings for them? Sometimes these meetings will from from 6am-7pm and then I am expected to fly home that night at 9:30pm. In this instance I get home at midnight. Any assistance is welcomed I am very lost in what I am entitled to. There is no internal travel policy.
Inflation is corporations blowing money.
Isn't inflation when a company gets a bail out from the government? I have been watching a few things where corporations admit they don't care about going negative because the government will save them anyway.
I feel like this story reflects the broader scope of the despair of people under 40. I'm adding part 1 to my title because it's late and I don't know how far I'll get here, there maybe gaps that inquiring minds will want filled… Anyway: In 1982, a factory opened in a small town in Canada. A little place called Port Colborne. They made high fructose corn syrup. The company was called CASCO, short for Canada Starch Corporation. All the new people bought local houses, cars, and started families. 1983 saw a flurry of babies. At least a dozen others that I can name, but will not to protect the innocent. We're talking about a factory of about 100 blue collars. 84 and 85 welcomed just as many kids. At least 30 kids over 5 years for a factory with 100 workers. Myself among them. They were GREAT as an…
I am the dad, but hey, clickbait title! I (35M) did a great job, skills and knowledge of the space second to none. This was confirmed in the meeting laying me off. I was a freelancer before, different field, this work was more of a hobby interest and it really flourished. I turned out to be great at it and everything was going well. This was my first 9-5 office job, past a year at Uni working in industry. About 6-7 months in, I got called out by the boss for spending too much time on my mobile / social media. Some work research related, some not. Did I mention I had a newborn at that point? So, lots of drama with my girlfriend, everyone feeling like garbage, its our first, many unknown, we have no family help so she was flying solo. The moms and dads here know. New…
