Unethical tips to get jobs?
Currently unemployed, and I never planned to be unemployed but now I have been frantically trying to look for work and have applied to 100+ jobs in my area and haven’t even gotten a call back(wish I was joking). What are some tips to help me get seen better so I can find a least a decent job.
“Manager” got handed karma
I used to work for a national chain of automotive paint stores (Company S) that had been recently bought out by larger national chain (Company N). I had recently moved to a new state with my new wife, and my previous job had no locations close to our new place, so I applied and joined Company S as a store manager. I had many years of management retail experience of 20+ employees, so Company S job was a breeze (4 FT employees, 2 other salespeople that didn’t report to me, but I was still responsible for their fuck ups). It started out fine. One day we’re riding in my direct manager’s Jeep on a sales call. He was a dick. His reply to my compliment on his COMPANY Jeep was, “you’ll never be able to afford this. Just focus on what you’re got.” He visited my store a lot and…
Why waste your own time as well as mine?
Lately I've been thinking of moving across the country to get closer to some family & to have a change in scenery. I applied for a position. The stated pay range that was 34-51, given my current and past experience I entered what I felt was an appropriate pay in the pay box on the online application. Within three days I had a recruiter emailing me wanting to do a phone interview. During the interview I was asked about my experience and how I felt about such a change in lifestyle compared to where I live now. Then they asked what pay I was expecting. when I replied with 45 the recruiter abruptly said I was asking way way more than that position is paying, thanked me for my time but I wasn't going to be a good fit for the position and the call ended. A few hours later…
My manager is nice, BUT
She has this thing, where she wants me to have my break in the staff room, incase I am needed so, “please have you break in the staff room, so I know where you are”. I always say no, as it is my break time and it is unpaid. Sometimes, I like to leave the site entirely and grab some fresh air. She has tried it a few times, the last time, I said “I am going for my coffee”, she replied, “where are you going”? (meaning are you going to the staff room)…and very firmly, I replied…” I am going for my coffee. When you are off the clock, or it is an unpaid break, never forgot, it is always your time and never theirs. As I say, she is nice, but you have to nip these things in the bud as soon as.
My bosses are dicks
The company I work for finally started offering full coverage insurance which I now have. As this is the first time I’ve ever had insurance, I wasn’t aware dental and health insurance cards were seperate things. Typically if I’ve needed something, I would just email HR and get an answer. But my GM and RGM have told me that if I need anything, I should go through them first, always. I ask for every insurance card I need and get no response from the GM and when stressed to the RGM how important it is to me that I have those, his only response was “ok”
Too drained and emotional
I got a new job at a new company last October. The job has been a complete mess. They needed someone technically skilled, I’m not. They have a grind/work 50-60 hours mindset, I do not. I have been miserable because I like to be useful and have something to show for my work, but they haven’t been able to meet me on the middle and find anything valuable for me to do for 9 months. I took on a side gig at the company to fill my time, meet people, and generally develop myself because my manager and director weren’t. Now, a job on that team is opened, and my manager is acting surprised I want to apply (we’ve had conversations about this being the wrong fit and I want to move on) and generally making me feel like I’m a “climber” and I’ve done something wrong not making this…
Layoffs have changed my job
Since the beginning of the year we’ve laid off over 60 people in hourly positions while no overhead positions were laid off. Their excuse was that sales had returned to 2019 levels and so the staffing had to mimic that. Many salary positions were added and yet not a single one was laid off. You’d think the workflow would adjust to 2019 levels but actually we are busier than ever and keep getting more tasks absorbed into my department of 9 people. When discussing burnout with my managers they say “well that’s why we pay you what we pay you.” I’m tempted to just flat out refuse the additional work because it wasn’t in my original job description to perform. Even if I get laid off I get a severance and finally can be free from this toxic work environment. Should I just be grateful for a job? Are other…
27K for a rabies shot
I got bit by a stray cat the other day. I went to go get a rabies shot just to be safe because I started feeling sick, scratching around the wound. Not good. couldn’t get a appointment with my primary in time ( the vaccine is only effective for 72 hours after exposure) And a clinic couldn’t help me because they don’t have the shot. So, I reluctantly went to the ER. I know, there’s a extremely strong likelihood that it wasn’t rabies and I was just making this up in my head, but I had no interest in being a statistic. So, I got the shot. I’m a veteran so I’m used to shots but this one hit different. They jabbed the fuck out of the area around the wound then my shoulders Anyway, 2 weeks later and the bill comes in. 27K. Good news! I got insurance. Bad…
I’ve Committed Murder
“Puttin' a maximum effort for minimum wage It bring the stillest waters up to a simmering rage And I don't feel bad about it My boss flippin, steady trippin', wanna get in my face Try-na treat a brother any old typical way He-he-hey that ain't the way I'm living today Give me my last week check and let me bounce up and skate That's when she said “I ain't giving you not one thin dime” That's when she made me wanna switch into my criminal mind She sittin' back in her office countin' major dough And don't wanna give a young man the pay she owe That's when I got on the horn and called Macy yo “Like yo this crazy ho try-na play me low” Macy beamed on the scene with both hands on deck Like, yo, respect your debt or protect your neck But old chick got bold…
