new job making me do work not in the job description

so i just got a job as a kennel tech at a doggy daycare/boarding place. obviously i expected to clean the dogs’ kennels and deal with accidents, things like that. but tell me why i’ve just been a glorified janitor?? this place has no cleaning crew at all so half of my shifts have been spent changing air filters, scrubbing the toilets, cleaning out the insides of fridges, etc. this might be tolerable if the other half wasn’t spent deep mopping and scrubbing the kennels, washing dishes, and taking giant bags of shit to the dumpsters. i barely interact with the dogs and when i have been able to, it’s honestly stressful because they are super out of control. my legs and arms are covered in scratches and bruises after 3 shifts because the dogs get so overexcited after being locked in tiny kennels most of the day. i think…

Curious about the legal aspect of this job I’m at.

So I (F22) currently work at a vape store in my city. Im planning on leaving there as I got offered a job at my dream workplace (an animal hospital!) but I’ve worked at the vape store for about a month now and something about it is bothering me. I’ll get scheduled 10 hour shifts (which isn’t really a big deal, it’s fine) but my boss and coworkers have all told me that you don’t get actual set breaks. It’s more like.. sit down in the break room when you can and when there’s no customers in the store. It’s quite a busy store and I rarely have time to sit, and when I do, it’s for maybe 2 minutes and I can barely get through a whole meal. I usually just end up having one granola bar during the day and that’s it. Sometimes you’re also booked alone, so…

What are some courses or certifications I could do to prepare for a new career while at work?

I have a decade of experience, 2 undergrad degrees and 2 masters degrees in religious nonprofit work, none of which is transferable to any other career. I don’t feel respected at my workplace and they just hired someone with zero experience to do a similar position but with much less responsibility and are paying them 15k more than I make. I think it’s time to get out but need a path forward.

Glassdoor Removed my reviews?

So I posted a couple of reviews recently on a couple of companies I used to work for. One of them was for a company I am currently at and another was a small business I was at for one month before moving to the former. I aired my grievances with both, but while my current company's review was approved I cannot find it on the list of reviews of the company's page on Glassdoor. I posted it a couple of months ago. My previous company's review was accepted, but then when I came to check back a couple of months ago, it was removed. Do you experience this as well?

Company revoked my access so quick I was kicked off the call when they were laying me off

Right when my manager said “and today is your last day” I saw her click her mouse and I was logged off of everything— even the call in which they were laying me off. I had to rejoin with my personal email. What a dummy. I think of it every now and then and laugh.

Can you turn down an upcoming promotion?

Upcoming promotion that I'm not supposed to know about, HR let it slip with an errant email. The promotion would increase time spent at work for not that much compensation. Has anyone successfully declined a promotion without ruining their job, and if so, how did you do it? A coworker warned me that turning down a promotion is a death sentence for your job.

My boss completely changed towards me (good way) after our little talk

My boss always used to yell at all the team members. He used to swear at times and just yell his head off for the slightest mistakes. My boss is a “I am better than you” kind of person. Well I was at work and made a slight mistake on something, first time ever my boss came at me. He yelled at me saying how my incompetent thinking costed things. I warned him very calmly and told him to lower your voice. He kept yelling and walked into his office without a single glare at me and shut the door. Everyone was quiet around me. I got up and walked in his office and closed the door behind me. He started telling that now I left my desk and I am just keep wasting time. I decided to speak with him about his behaviour. I told him that he needs…

My Work told me they could see what i was watching on Youtube. Is this.. allowed?

Let me explain a bit.. I work in Software in the UK (remote). I’ve been at 3 different US companies. The first 2, i had no issues with. My current one however.. I’m a bit weirded out. I usually watch a bit of YouTube for that background noise etc. Sometimes, i’ll maybe pay a bit more attention to it than I should.. (oh no, anyway..) Recently in work, I felt like I was going no where, things were grim, so i put a bit more time into watching some Hobby stuff. (warhammer..) I was mentally checking out, but still getting work done. HOWEVER. After airing my thoughts about the organisation of the team, my boss brought me on a call and said: “I had IT check your activity. You’ve been logging on late and logging off early (fair, I was), you’ve also been watching a lot of youtube” To which…

What is a good reason for 4 days of no call, no show at work?

I had a mental health crisis last week and ended up missing 4 days of work in a row without calling out at all. I really like the job, is there any way to get it back?

What is the process for corporations subtly desensitizing you into become a drone?

I feel like it starts in high school where society takes away your weekends because you have to work a part time job/do home work–>once you get into college, now they take away your sleep to because you have to work more and the amount of school work significantly increases–>When this way of life becomes the new norm, corporations further turn you into a drone with forced socializing events and more overworking; thus, you have almost no time for yourself and your existence is working as a drone to pay off debt or just to barely scrape by. I thought of this and have been pondering it for a couple of days. What do y'all think?
