I recently read “Tribe” by Sebastian Junger. The book explores the idea that modern society has lost its sense of community and close-knit ties, trading it in for an illusion of safety and an abundance of relative resources. This shift has resulted in a more isolated and self-centered society, particularly apparent in the U.S. This idea really resonated with me, particularly when considering our discussions here about workplace culture. I've noticed numerous posts about companies claiming their employees are all “family”. It often seems like this rhetoric is used to excuse the overworking of employees—after all, we all pull together and make sacrifices for family, right? I think its likely that subconsciously, managers may be attempting to foster this familial environment in response to an intrinsic yearning we all share for the lost sense of community and togetherness. This longing, born out of our increasingly isolated modern lifestyles, could be…

Covert Job hunting – references
How did you handle references for new employers ? I googled it and had several different answers. I’m avoiding giving anyone at the current company as a reference. I’ve been in my current company 2 1/2 years. How about my previous employer of 12 years? Giving any current management a sign of job hunting could immediately generate problems.

I love you all
I love everyone here, so much. We all suffer to much from how this corporate age treats us, but we aren't alone. We all understand eachothers pain. We aren't alone. I love you all so much, you aren't alone. Don't give up on life or yourself. We are gonna make it eventually. I love . You all
I got a random $6k/yr raise today.
Hey guys, My boss called me today and said Compensation and Benefits emailed him about my salary. Basically put, I got a $6k raise a year. I made $104k previously. My boss said it was “preventive retainment” and I was “on the low end for my position”. I get the offer letter next week. It felt good to be appreciated, but… I am thinking that maybe I should counter for more? Like maybe I am still in the low end? Would that be weird? I was told this does not disqualify me from the merit raise either which will be next year and it will not disqualify me from my bonus. I am really good at what I do (says probably everyone at their job) but I am routinely called in for projects that need that extra pow. It just seemed odd that I get this raise out of nowhere.…
I’ve been in the position a warehouse with 5, now 4 employees, 1 supervisor and 1 manager) for a month and in that time one of their previous full time employees seriously threatened me and I pursued action to have them terminated. Since then management and supervisor has been stressed due to lack of worker and taking it out on the new staff (me) and everyone else to a lesser extent. They’ve all around been rude and disrespectful and I wanna sting them. I’ve already landed a much better job and was just curious and to what the worst thing they could pursue could possibly be.
Convince co worker to walk out
So I work at Wendy’s and we convinced a really bad go worker to walk out. They always do nothing and today they were so frustrated they had to do work today that we convinced them to work out and we were all happy that they did. That’s a relief.
Underpaid for 4 years
I worked for a kosher butcher in Westchester NY. The only one left in northern Westchester. I was underpaid for 4 years, not only was I paid under the state minimum wage. I was also working 70 hours a week and not paid any overtime after 40 hours. I was in a bad place at the time and I really needed the job. I was verbally abused on the daily by the owner. I have since moved and don't know if I have a case as it was a couple years ago and I don't love in the area anymore. The owner is also selling non kosher meat to extremely religious people. He has illegal immigrants working for him that are lovely people and he treats them like dirt by screaming and threatening. I wish this bastard would get what's coming to him.
Hello I filed a formal grievance against my boss. My boss is new-ish with the organization and was pretty bad from the start. I kept pretty good details of dates, times, and the issue that took place. Made sure that I talked to everyone I needed to talk to, including a company therapist. The added stress and disengagement, not just from me, but also from my coworkers… Just couldn't do it anymore. Now I have a meeting scheduled with a third party hr consultant firm to investigate the situation. My question is this: – can i send the investigator the list of grievances and say that I'm more than willing to answer any questions that pertain to the listed individuals or dates in the letter? I know that these investigators try and trip people up and I'm already a tad nervous about the whole thing. Suggestions?
